After skipping back between Bronze and Silver the last few years- finally got Gold yesterday, have it until April 2011. Very happy!

In saying that- how do I make the most of it?

Can I now have preferred seating on all flights? How do I add this to my profile?

I know I get comp QC membership, do I get sent out another card- or can I access it now just with my FF card?

Anything else I can look forward to over the next 17 months?

Thanks in advance.

Yes... when you select seats (OLCI on domestic and you can now pre-select seats on international) you will notice you have MUCH nicer seats

QC=Easy... show your gold card or BP with your status on it and they will smile and wave you in!

As for making best use: Fly! Allow plenty of time for lounging... try different routing to enjoy a variety of OW lounges...

Huge advantage is having access to the Premium desk... +1 is Gold and she used the desk to fix up some atrocious mistakes a TA made on some of our bookings (US Lab, insisted booking a US carrier (AA) and booked us all under separate PNRs so I could get good seats (AA Plat) Louise could get good seats (QF SG) but my daughter (NB) would be stuck up the back) Call to QF by her fixed it up...

No you will not get another card - just a Gold QFF card. How do you make the most of your Gold status? - travel frequently to maintain your status.

(Once was Plat, then gold then silver then bronze)

Cyclogenesis: So better seats should automatically open up for me when I select seats online when checking in? That's great news.

Also- what's the premium desk? Is that different to the Business counter etc?

Thanks Robert- will keep that in mind. ;)

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but as a SG I never had access to the Premium Desk. The Premium Desk is a WP benefit iirc?

They do tend to be nicer to the SG's on the phone though, but i've never had them answer the phone 'Premium Desk' as a SG whereas I've had that as a WP.

Find an excuse to go to Hongkong (on CX or QF) and pay a visit to "The Wing" lounge .... :D

That is a long way to go just to visit a lounge.

I think I will have had enough of the HKG lounges, until next June anyway, in the next couple of weeks. :-|

So flying SYD>BRI tonight- went to check in online- select seats... And a whole bunch of seats 1st row back from J class were available. Fantastic. These werent available before.

Looking forward to putting my feet up in the QC tonight.

You will also get better reward seat availability than the lower tiered members, its quite an eye opener when you compare the difference live, still not great but better!

Just remember, all Gold members are QC members, but not all QC members are gold. Ie, your Gold Membership card is better than a QC club.

Order of precedence:

Chairmans Lounge
Platinum
Gold
Silver Qantas Club
Silver
Bronze Qantas Club
Bronze

Actually, I'm not sure if they value Silver over Bronze QC, I asume they do but I could be wrong. At that end of the scale there's little difference anyway.

I just changed my profile 3 days ago after reaching Gold for the first time also, however, there will be little change for me insofar as benefits go as I am QF Life and don't have any QF travel booked for the next two years with the exception of an award F to ORD in August. I will have a couple of YUP fares, but not enough to keep me on gold. At least I can say I made it once.
