Hi Guys
Am new here in terms of being registered but have been lurking and reading unregistered for a few months.
Almost 40 years of age living in Melbourne. I work as a Workplace Relations Advisor but don't have the luxury (yes I know all you that travel constantly get bored of it easily but people that don't believe it to be a luxury!) of travelling for work.

We have very recently joined the Velocity Program (both me and my Wife).

Took up the Amex Platinum Card Offer as well as the Virgin Money Std Visa Offers recently so will be starting our Velocity Account with a pooled balance of 130 000 points to start without even stepping foot in a plane.

Also looking to join a hotel rewards program. Leaning between IHG or HH Honours as we intend to hopefully start travelling a bit more often. Especially with a 130K start on Velocity without having spent a sent or ever jumping on a Virgin plane!

Am leaning to iHG as can "buy in" to the now second top tier (Platinum Elite) by signing onto Ambassador Program and then subsequently taking out the IHG Dining Rewards Cards. We are at a stage in our lives where we don't want to slum it in lower class accommodation anymore!

Look forward to learning heaps from you guys!
Just bought the Beginners Guide to Velocity so hope to get some tricks from that but more importantly have you guys help us out and learn more!

Welcome to AFF celetrum, and especially the MEL crowd. We're a fairly social bunch so feel free to come along to an event and discuss travel with fellow flyers.

Oh and we don't all fly for work, many of us are self funded flyers who know how to fully utilise the system as it where.

Thank you both for the welcome. Especially from people with such great experience travelling! Learning to utilise the systems is what I am after!

Also I see Hvr that you are a HHons Diamond well HHons is one of the two hotel programs I am tossing up between so I am sure I might be asking a few questions. The Doubling Up on points (Points and Miles!) is attractive but for some reason I love the idea of the Ambassador Program with Intercontinental (but could be just better marketing for noobs like me!)

Was actually just reading about the Champagne Appreciation Night! I don't know much about Champagne myself but could be interesting. (More of a Chivas Regal Whiskey kind of guy!). Will look into the other one too. Thanks for being so inviting so quickly!

Welcome to AFF celetrum!

Be wary of the MEL crowd. They like to party all night and the only AFFers to be refused alcohol in QF First lounge. ;)

Ok just took the plunge and signed up for Intercontinental Ambassador program! We are going to use the BOGOF certificate that comes with it for our first ever stay at an intercontinental in a club room at IC Sydney in Mid January.
