I've had a few Avis rentals this year (all in Australia) ranging from one day to over a week. In each case my AA a/c has been credited with 500 miles and of course the expiry date resets to 18 months from that date. An easy way to keep the points alive and also not a bad earner particularly on one day rentals of around $50.

That's a good idea.

Is the 500 miles a recent change? I thought the earning was 50 miles per day or 1 mile per $1 spent.

For ~$20 more I have been earning 2,000 MileagePlus miles via Hertz. Award redemptions to SE Asia require less miles than Aadvantage.
