The bad news seems to keep on coming. See either Kingfisher Airlines or News - oneworld for a brief statement, but the crux is:

India's Kingfisher Airlines and oneworld[SUP]® [/SUP]today agreed to put the airline's entry into the alliance on hold to give it time to strengthen its financial position.

We're doing some domestic flights within India over the next month. I hummed and haaed over IT v 9W at booking time, but settled for the latter in the hope that QF points would still be awarded. A small ray of sunshine, I suppose ...

Kingfishers financial woes are nothing new. Mallaya needs to put someone with real aviation experience in charge since India has almost everything a growing airline would want. Cheap labour, and a growing market. The only thing they could do without is the mass corruption in government.

If your ticketed 9W you will get FF points but not SCs.

its not just mallaya - literally none of the airlines their are making money.
they have all added massive capacity and kept fares low to stimulate demand

just not sustainable with todays fuel prices

I'm not sure how much power Kingfisher had over this "agreement".

Now that it's suspended from the IATA clearing house, listed as a NPA by many banks, and have severe difficulties in obtaining more cash, this is probably one of the last nails into the coffin.

I'm thinking that they are finished now. Only 16 of their 64 aircraft are in the air. If your only chance for survival is a govt bailout then the jig is probably up. Personally, I'd always hoped that One World would have chosen Jet Airways as a partner instead. Vijay Malia seemed more Richard Branson than Richard Branson at times.
Will not close down Kingfisher: Vijay Mallya - Hindustan Times
