Kogan has introduced a credit card, the Kogan Money Black Card.

Highlights:
  • No annual fee
  • Intro offer - $300 Kogan.com store credit, after spending $3000 on eligible purchases in 90 days
  • Free Kogan First membership (free/express shipping at kogan.com)
  • Up to 2 reward points per dollar spent at kogan.com (1pt elsewhere)
  • Points earning uncapped

Thoughts? I'm thinking of signing up, even only for the $300 credit (will get my next 12 months voucher for mobile phone plan).

Everything I know about Kogan screams to run in the opposite direction!

But which bank is this through - Citibank?

Does seem that Citi is behind it.

I'll see how it goes, and report back - wish me luck!

FWIW, I've had mostly great experiences with Kogan - my TV is still going strong after 4 years, and I've not been able to find a reasonable competitor to their mobile plans.

If it is Citi then my views are well known on this topic.

But I'd also caution that if you were thinking of other Citibank cards in the next 6 to 12 months then taking this card could impact on the unofficial exclusion periods Citi offers fro their card suite.

I'm normally an opportunist for any credit card providing a rebate (i.e CBA/BEN/WBC often do one for $250 or so cashback on a low rate card which I open/spend/receive/close in as quick as possible time).

My gut feel is this one has whiskers all over it. Unlike Doc, I've had good experiences with Citi, I'm congnisant that I may have had a run of good luck. Again, my gut feel tells me this would be an introduction to their land of horrors.

I can confirm I'll be a non-starter for this offering.

So, as far as I can tell, Kogan rewards points can be redeemed for discounts off future purchases from Kogan? Meh.

The $300 Kogan credit for a no-annual-fee card isn't bad, I guess, but I won't bother applying for this.

So, a bit of an update:

Card application went smoothly - standard questions, two payslips. Card arrived fairly promptly, set PIN via phone app, and started spending almost straight away. Haven't hit the required spend yet, but the T&Cs indicate that the credit won't be applied until after the full 3 months anyway.

All in all, seems to be going smoothly. None of the application issues previously experienced with Citi. Time will tell I guess when it comes to the credit and eventual closing of the account.

Rewards points loaded to account (1c per point value). T&Cs indicate that they can be used for part of a purchase. As I said before, I use Kogan mobile, so the rewards points and credit will come in handy there. If you don't buy products from Kogan, then this card offers no value to you, but that should be pretty obvious.

Offer was temporarily lifted during a black friday sale to spend $500, receive $500. Back down to same offer as before.

Back to $500 credit. Applied and verified/approved same day. I cancelled my other citi cards before this application. Hoping that I can still apply for another citi based card in the next six months.

I thought Kogan products were not very good.

However I needed a cheep TV - 7 years ago, so purchased one from Kogan - about. It’s still going strong. I want to buy a new one but feel bad as this one is still working :(

So based on that, their quality seems good.
