Perhaps they are forward planning for global warming?

I have a feeling that south west pacific includes all the small island nations but aren't important enough to list seperately.

Still, there is a month to book just in case they have disappeared at the cheap rate.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this - my RAR and NAN J trips may have been in jeopardy!

Not to worry - I called Krisflyer and they advised that although the countries aren't listed, you can still fly to these destinations with the bargain 35k price tag.

She mentioned the biggest change was that you can now book one way awards on *A partners - whereas previously you could only book a return journey.

What about Palau, Micronesia, Northern Mirianas and Marshall Islands? With CO joining *A these new exotic locations are available for redemption. Which zone would those be? Would it be in North Asia 2 given that there is where Guam is categorised?

SQ *A J Oz-NZ-SWP Awards is still the biggest bargain and keep the aussies happy (that is if they even know about this, most don't). Let's hope they keep it this way.

One-way award is excellent, given for anyone living in major cities in Australia, with lowish KF balances such as 12.5K or 17.5K, that are about to expire, they can at least redeem 1 way NZ Y/J award from Oz to NZ, and then buy a el-cheapo ticket back to Oz. it would be a great way to try out NZ Business Premier (if offered on route)! Or even better, they can get 1 way Y/J Oz-NZ-Fiji (for example), then buy 1 way Fiji-Oz on say Pacific Blue/QF/VA.

One great deal that will be gone is SWP2 ( ie, NZ) to Central America (Mexico, Bahamas, etc), in J, for only 60K. Looks like the new price is 140K! More than double.

Another one is from North Asia to Central America, in F, for 80K, or in J, for 65K. New price is 125K/ 145K. :(

This thread inspired me to go back and look at my ideas of making it to the Cook Islands. I notice that the SQ Redemption Calculator no longer gives me a points calc for AKL / RAR.

Am I just being paranoid about SWP locations.

How much are the fuel fines/taxes from SYD to somewhere in SWP ? (utilising the 12500 one way fair for Y).

I've for 13.486k points I need to use up before Feb. This looks like a good opportunity. Thanks!

I'm looking at the charts and have always wondered, would this trip still be 35k? -> PER-AKL-PPT return

I notice that the new charts have gone live. Since the initial release I think they expanded the description of SOUTH WEST PACIFIC: to now include

Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga

or was it just my fading memory.

If my previous booking is any guide, I did the following:

SYD-AKL-PPT NZ J return cost me $140AU, redeemed in Feb 2009
SYD-WLG-AKL-PPT-AKL-SYD NZ J cost me $150AU, redeemed in May 2009

Both were 35K SQ points. My guess is the taxes would be half for one-way. But someone has to try .....

Original *A reward charts always have these islands included. They have managed to fix the error in this final release of reward chart. Interestingly they do not have Vanuatu included.

I recall reading that different airports have different inbound/outbound handling charges. Taxes would still depend upon the combination of airports and may not be half.

The one way bookings I have done with SQ to Europe and Vietnam have had different taxes.

This was for so for various "trials" that I did. Note this was for SQ rather than *A redemption.

Also in the past with other FF bookings and piad ticket airport taxes have normally been different for each direction in my bookings.

ie out of Oz was relatively normal, but out of New Caledonia was very expensive.
