Welcome to AFF.

Assuming the children are over 2 years of age and flying from the East Coast (cheaper from Perth) it would be 46,750 KrisFlyer miles (55,000 miles before 15% online booking discount) per person.

So a total of 233,750 KrisFlyer miles for the family of 5.

Welcome to AFF, AdamB.

The SQ website has a redemption calculator here:

Singapore Airlines&

Yes, there is a 15% discount on the miles required if booked online.
(The redemption calculator gives you the miles required before the discount)

Don't forget to add the hefty taxes and surcharges, :( which have to be paid in cash. (Can't use miles/points like QF)

Unfortunately, the taxes/ charges are rather high!

Though for J travel, as it is only 50% more than Y, it is still a very good redemption for the destinations that Saver J's can be taken too.
However family travel is harder as many destinations are limyted to 2 J Savers per flight. Though some Asian detinations offer 4.

Is there a website or page somewhere showing taxes / charges for star alliance airlines. I would like to know the difference between SQ and NZ.

I think you may have trouble finding such a site. Every destination would involve different taxes and surcharges which could change regularly.
