I've posted on some other threads, that after being a QFF for almost 14yrs, I finally made it to Platinum this year. I've since taken three domestic flights and I can say the experience is much improved now that Platinum has been achieved.

The business lounges are obviously the starting point, where I've found the staff to be friendly (which is a shame, they shouldn't be any more friendlier), the space available, and the meals selection makes it much more pleasant experience. Yesterday when I woke up 4am to get to SYD, I was able to have a decent breakfast before boarding the plane, which I've not done before.

Priority Boarding has been a treat, much shorter queues than the general queue, however I still have seen Silvers and Golds in this queue with no action taken by QF staff, if this is a stated benefit for Platinum in the program I believe QF really needs to improve the game in this area.

Seat selection has been vastly improved too, over the next three days I'm going BNE>MEL>PER>SYD and have been able to select the front row of Y for each of those legs. I'm certain this is purely because of the Platinum status as previously, even on a fully paid Y ticket, those rows have not been available to me.

I have not noted any changes to in-flight service, I've seen other flyers on those flights being fawned over by the crew, I can only assume they are CL or P1 . Note I don't want the fawning over, so no big loss here.

I have an upgrade request for PER>SYD, its a busy flight time so will be interesting to see if this comes through. Later this month I will be going SYD>HKG>SYD, most likely CX one way and QF the other so I'm keen to see how improved the international experience will be.

So overall, well done QF. Happy to be a WP.

I've recently returned to Qantas after spending a year with Virgin, and my first flight yesterday was quite different from the last. Staff were very good, although I've seen this crew in action before and they are always top notch, priority boarding was fast, business class lounge food was excellent, and being able to score 4C on a 738 was great. The only downside was that the business class lounge was packed! The double status credits are really pushing more people to WP!

It'll be interesting to see how things transpire with the end of last years DJ status match happening around now. Whether these flyers have flown and retained Platinum with DJ or are they returning to QF.

The double SC's certainly helped me reaching WP this year, although I would've achieved it even without, it just happened earlier.

Last year I got and took the offer from Virgin to become Platinum. I haven't flown at all with Virgin during that time, though at the time I thought I might try but didn't get around to it. I have tried the lounges in Perth and Adelaide however. The Perth one was pretty empty when I went in, food offerings okay but a bit like being at a funeral! No views either. The Qantas lounge in Perth (the Flouro lounge!) is busy; probably too busy, but has great views! The Virgin Lounge in Adelaide I thought was okay but quite small. Was a bit busier than Perth though when I visited. The Qantas Lounge in Adelaide has no real airport views either.

This is especially the case in Brisbane, I find it to be the most crowded.

Thanks to the OP for some positive comments about QF, nice to hear about good experiences

Mr FM, Miss FM and I have all made it to Platinum for the first time after being members since 1998. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference or not. I did immediately go and do select seats on a CBR MEL flight in September. As a gold I could only book in rows 4 and 5 as Platinum I can grab seats in row 3 - not a huge improvement :)

We did an AONE4 to get to platinum - I have to say I really enjoyed Qantas - we did Qantas First to JHB, BA to London and then to JFK and the A380 from LAX to SYD. Everything was perfect with QANTAS - FAs were fabulous (thank-you Sonia and Victoria) and food (my weak point) was excellent. We had 2A and 3A on the A380 and I would really recommend those. FA's were good on the BA flights and suites were OK - we had New First on both legs - however food was not good - I would even go so far as to say bad on the JHB-LHR leg
. AA First was OK in the USA - we were expecting it to be bad and it certainly is not in the league of domestic business here. However flights left on time, baggage didn't get lost, FAs were friendly and on the rare occasions we had a meal service it was fine.

I have also recently achieved WP status for the first time, and am very happy with the service.

Two weeks ago I needed to book a SYD-BNE return on 2 days notice. Not sure if it was WP status, but I was able to book a classic award seat at 5:00pm on two days notice.

Staff at check in on the return in BNE could not have been more helpful, checking if I was happy with my reserved seat (6A).

Well done Qantas. Makes me determined to retain WP status, but I also hope the good service extends to all customers.
