Lack of middle name.

I booked on Singapore Airlines for the first time and it asked for first and last names.
Once I got the tickets I couldn't add our middle names as per our passports.
When we check in they can enter our passport full names.
Is there a problem with having no middle name on our tickets?

Shouldn’t be an issue, as other have pointed out.

I wouldn’t confuse the check in process by asking them to add your middle name.

When your passport is scanned as part of checkin the details including your full name are uploaded directly from the passport and sent to relevant authorities in Australia and at your destination/transit. This means they will have your middle name.

Asking checkin to change the booking might lead to confusion, and not wanting to check you in until you have sorted it out with the airline. Trying to sort it out with the airline is likely to lead to hassle, and may involve them wanting to cancel your existing ticket and issue a new one… which can be pricey.

Yes, not a problem, only problem I've ever had with middle names is around getting frequent flyer program numbers to "stick".

For future reference for you or anyone else who stumbles across the thread, if you want to avoid this particular niggle, all you need to do is enter "First Middle" into the "First Name" field

Hi @Toothfairy, Can you confirm if you had a problem? We are due to fly both Singapore Airlines and Scoot next week (international flights) and my partner made the booking without our middle names (because there wasn't a 'middle name' field). I always use middle names for intl flights by including it as a second name, as everything says must match the passport name exactly, so am a bit concerned. I also rang SIN and the customer service operator confirmed they use all names exactly as provided in the passport so my middle name 'should' be included in the booking. When I mentioned that online lots of people have no issue he had nothing to say, just reiterated their policy. Obviously it costs $$$$ to change the name. It seems like a massive waste of money when no one else seems to have a problem though!! :/ I would love to know how you went. TIA!

I ran into this problem recently with our Vietnam Visas. It asked for first name and last name/surname. Knowing how pedantic they can be I put in exactly what they asked for and they were rejected. They wanted names as per passports and anything else was not acceptable even though it's not what that actually asked for.

Visas are a different matter, they do need to match your passport exactly (even if the instructions are unclear haha).

Not the OP, but contact centre staff will always parrot this back to you as it is the policy (for first and last names...). I've flown SQ and TR many, many (many many many) times over the years and never include my middle names in my bookings. Same for many other airlines around the world. As others have said, it's not an issue. Don't worry about it.

(I fully expect everyone to continue worrying about it, people who ask this question never seem satisfied by the assurance that it doesn't matter lol)

I thought so also however Vietnam rejected them as they were not exactly as per the passport. I simply added our middle names and they were approved.
