Hey VA, how come you can have 4 flts from Hobart to Melb on a Mon, Thurs and Fri, and 3 flights Tues + Wed, but you have only One single direct flight from Melb into Hobart which departs at 20 past 7 at night, on 4 out of 5 weekdays ? Does nobody do a day's biz in Hobart any more ??

Tue & Wed are typically quieter than the other weekdays so demand less flights. Looking at MEL-HBA, QF & JQ frequencies fluctuate based on the day of the week just as VA do.

As to the timings of the flights, it must reflect the market. JQ’s services, like VA, are concentrated in the mornings. Their last departure from MEL to HBA is currently at 1540.

Yr comment about JQ concentrating on the mornings: JQ and QF each have 4 flights HBA/MEL, so does VA with 4. So getting out is not the issue with any of the 3 airlines.

My point amplified is that while JQ balance those 4 flts outwards from HBA with 5 flts inwards from MEL, and QF have 3 - VA have only one flt from Mel to HBA, and thats at 1920!

I’m not entirely sure what you mean…but VA’s first flight of the day from HBA-MEL arrives at 1200. So yes, the only flight left to select from MEL-HBA is the 1920.

I think we will need to wait for the Biz traffic to return, which is only about 30% of pre Covid I recall Jayne mentioning, before we get a more Biz like timetable available. I do note there are many overnights VA and QF are still not doing at the moment, which in turn the following morning you don't get that 6-7am departure flight available. Its now 9am, as they return to home base rather than overnighting.

Prob not until until back half of 2023 until that Biz market is completely back.

The flight schedules seem to be in flux at the moment. I just booked flights from HBA-LHR return instead of MXP because the connections are hideous with the latter. Even the best return option required multiple 5hr + transits in SIN and MEL. Usually I try and turn the transits into a longer SIN stopover, but quarantine rules are still changing all the time. I suspect the flight schedules will change again before I fly anyway.

Thank goodness for lounges.

done similar - booked Hba/Lhr return with Emirates in May instead of preferred SQ because 7 hrs transit in Sin on return (might just hv been bearable in new SQ lounge) or an overnight at either Syd or Mel (def. not an option after 24hrs travel). At least that was SQ timetable at the time we went with EK a month ago..

Can ustand there will continue to be dislocations with Intl/domestic connections for quite a while, but my original post was to point out the asymmetry of VA having 3 and 4 weekday flts Hba to Mel but only one inbound, and that at 1920 in the evening!

There is no asymmetry. The other 3 VA flights from MEL to HBA are in the morning – they just wouldn’t appear as an option if you’re booking a return trip because the first arrival into MEL from HBA is at 1200.

Actually yr right - having selected outwards flt from HBA, VA website only shows later same-day returns wch is logical, and when I move to another day to see what alternative scheds might be, the same assumption of my outward flight is held, so I continued to see only later-in-the day returns. When I did a one-way search from Melb all is revealed in its wonderful glory. Doh..

The website Flight connections is a quick way of looking at flight schedules. If you scroll down to VA only, you can hover over the dates in the calendar and quickly see the flights available. The flight schedules seem to change week to week at the moment.
