Had a one night stay at Lakehouse Daylesford on Wednesday 24th April. My fiancé and I received a voucher at Christmas time from my parents which included one night's accommodation in a 'Lodge Room', 3 course dinner in the on property restaurant and buffet breakfast the following morning. We didn't arrive at the property till a little before 7pm after driving up the Western highway after work (along with everyone else it seemed). However upon arriving at reception we were warmly welcomed and the check-in formalities complete, with a room upgrade to a 'waterfront room'.

Dinner reservation was made a week earlier for 7:30pm and so at 7:29pm we left the room, walked the 40 metres and arrived at the restraunt. For the record we are not 'foodies' and normally wouldn't travel so far ( 2 hours from home) to go for dinner, with this in mind I didn't take any photos of the food but needless to say it was lovely. I was slightly disappointed that the duck was not available as per the menu, and if I was paying the standard rates, travelled to be at this destinantion restaurant I would feel let down. We had a seat in front of the open fire which was lovely on a cold Autumn night and spend approximately 2 hours at the restaurant, much more than our normal 'get-in get-out' restaurant dinners.

Back to the room after dinner with the heater running flat out it was very cosy, helped somewhat by the heated floor in the bathroom. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and a nice view over the trees towards the lake from our balcony. Not being one to sleep in I rose early the following day and went for a walk around the grounds. The lake is obviously the centrepiece and was very pretty, although I bet very cold!

Breakfast was had back at the restaurant (available 8am-10am) with hot orders taken and cooked in the kitchen. Breads, fruits, spreads all available in the buffet section. Possibly the best eggs and tomato I've ever had and would struggle to beat it! Fresh orange juice provided, coffee orders taken and it was a lovely, quiet breakfast.

Checkout at 11am came along all too quickly and was time to leave. Drinks bill paid for, keys handed back and was back in the car for the drive home. The hotel obviously has a very good reputation, wining many awards over the years and I can say these are well deserved. The service from staff was fantastic and it appeared they really enjoyed working there. I personally wouldn't be in a hurry to stay their again as the cost they are charging are definitely up there and I am sure I could find better value elsewhere. Overall though, a very pleasant and relaxing stay at Lakehouse Daylesford.

The food there is very nice, I have always enjoyed it whenever I have been. It has been many years since I stayed there - I am glad you enjoyed it. As you say, at those prices, you would rather not be the one paying!
