Mrs fairbasa's family made an impromptu visit to the Philippines and only told us when they got there! Seeing as they're closer than usual we thought we might try to make a 4 night trip out of it to visit them in a few weeks time. Neither of us have been previously.

We're seeking recommendations on where to stay in Manila (or within 2hrs drive of MNL).

Pretty broad scope at this point, resorts would be ideal but from brief research there doesn't seem to be many around Manila. Failing that, where's the best (and safest) area for tourists? Budget is constrained by the family to around $150/nt per couple.

Open to any general travel advice also.

Cheers,
fairbasa

I'm probably a little late, but I'd recommend the City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati. I've stayed there twice, once in September and again in December and couldn't fault the place. I've found that it's about an hour Uber ride to the airport from the hotel.

Shangri-La is very nice, but very not cheap. Short walk to a nice big mall also.

Plan 4 hours to get back to the airport, the traffic is legit crazy like nothing else I've ever seen. Uber is available.
