Question for our frequent South American flyers.

I have booked domestic flights within Brazil with Latam Brasil. The flights do not come with any checked luggage.

I am finding it difficult to find out how much baggage will cost to purchase at the airport and whether I get any free luggage allowance for being OW Emerald. I am flying with my wife (also OW Emerald) and our 6 month baby so will be carrying a bit of luggage.

Many thanks!

FlyerTalk may be your best bet.

It's unlikely that your Emerald status will give you 20kg. British Airways offers a hand-luggage only fare that is similarly exempt from the Emerald allowance.

I'm not 100% sure, sorry. But I believe that oneworld status should give you an extra bag for free. I think BA is the only airline to specifically exclude this benefit with its hand luggage only fares.

Beyond that, I found this page: http://tamtrade.com.br/informacoes-e-servicos/embarque/bagagem/excesso-de-bagagem/

It's in Portuguese, but from what I understand they charge BRL50 ($20) for the 1st piece of excess baggage on Brazilian domestic flights if you pay in advance. (If you pay at the airport it's BRL80.) The second additional piece of luggage costs BRL80 and third BRL110.

Well it woke similarly to Danger's experience with BA. OW Emerald status gave you nothing. Had to pay 80R for each bag. 160R for the bag that was overweight. However, when travelling with a baby you get 1 free bag.
