Hi all!
I’m incredibly new to frequent flyer programs and have never owned a credit card. I know, how have I gotten this far in life without putting something on credit?
I’ve recently received an email advertising 120,000 bonus Q ff points if I sign up to an ANZ credit card. The yearly fee is around $400 but if I spend $4000 in the first 3 months I get $275 back on my credit card and the 120,000 bonus points. I’m considering signing up for the points bonus and because the qantas membership fee will be waived! That’s right, I don’t have a Q ff account either 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m not planning on keeping the account open for much longer after accruing points though - is this something that’s often done?
Looking forward to chatting with you all at some stage or another!

Welcome to AFF.

It's never too late to join the exciting world of credit card points earning!

I'm sure that we'd all wished we'd started sooner and will hear stories about how things were better in the past and you've missed the boat because all of the good deals have gone. things definitely do change. But let me assure you that since I got on the band wagon I've never flown in anything less than business class!

Welcome aboard Missymoo, CC signups can be quite lucrative- be careful to not leave a balance on the card at the end of the month and end up paying interest or getting yourself in financial.
If you are disciplined and have the financial Wherewithal it can be fun

Thank you Dr Ralph! My dad recently retired and my mum is also getting on in age ... I would love to be able to fly them around in business class to visit family etc. You’re all so sweet here!

Thanks Steady! I think one of the reasons I’ve never signed up for a CC is because I’ve been quite conservative and disciplined in paying my bills, mortgages, saving etc etc. So I’m 99% certain I’ll be fine with a CC. It’s that 1% “I got busy at work and forgot to pay” I’m worried about hahah!

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

You can set up an auto payment from your bank acct to pay off the full balance on the cc on the due date. Just be aware that you have to probably pay it manually the first month, and then it will pay itself off after that.
You can manage the whole account online. Be sure not to cancel the card until the points are safely in your Qantas account.
If you shop in Woolworths, you can get a free card that you just scan whenever you go shopping in Woolworths and that will also go towards your Qantas account.

Ok Missymoo you have started with Qantas so you have to book redemption flights way early as you duke it out with around 10 million plus other members. I have Kris Miles, Virgin points and American Air miles all of which are far easier to redeem.
Welcome to AFF and enjoy the ride.

Oh wow! Cove how early would you suggest I book? And how did you manage to get points with sooo many? Did you start when you were 3? Lol and thanks for your advice!

Have a look at pointhacks and go for the 200,000 Amplify non Qantas St George Credit card. Proviso is that you can make the $12,000 spend target....and the struggle with St George retail bank to get the card. The Amplify points are so easy to get you spoilt on travelling in style.
There are AFF threads on this credit card.
About 30 years ago I started and my needs grew and grew. I used to think it would stop but it never did stop.
Hello London, hello Sydney and Melbourne, hello Los Angeles and hello Maldives in 2020 all for my favourite price of points and miles.

Welcome to AFF @Missymoo.

Points earning can be very obsessive. I've stopped worrying about earning points for everything and I feel much better.

Good luck.
