We have another set of QF aircraft changes

[FONT=ARIAL, Helvetica, Geneva]*SYD-LAX-SYD decreases to daily 6x A380 and 1x B744
*SYD-DFW-SYD increases from 6x weekly to daily
*MEL-HKG-MEL moves from daily A330 to 4x A330 and 3x B744
The 3x weekly freed up A330 from MEL-HKG route will be used for some new to be announced Asian flying.

The part I am interested in is that the pundits are now speculating that the freed up A330 might actually be used to (re)start some PER international service. Included in the guessing are PER-SIN or PER-HKG or PER-NRT

Any speculation on the use of the A330 for 3 days?

Happy wandering

Anything that is an increase for DFW gets a tick in my book!

Don't see PER-SIN happening given they previously dumped the route with 330s on it and have only just restarted and mining sector gotten worse.

Maybe HKG but again question pax numbers

Latest Qantas News
More seats to Asia 17 November 2015

Qantas will add more seats on routes to Asia from April 2016, responding to strong demand in the region.

The extra capacity will come from upgrading three of Qantas’ seven weekly Melbourne-Hong Kong services from an Airbus A330 to a Boeing 747 aircraft which features our A380 inflight product. This is a 2.5 per cent increase in Qantas’ total capacity to Hong Kong.

Qantas expects to use the A330 aircraft freed up by the Hong Kong changes to add further capacity on another Asian route, with several markets under consideration.

To enable the Asian growth and better reflect demand in the U.S. market, Qantas will reduce Sydney-Los Angeles flights from 10 per week to seven per week from April 2016.

Qantas customers will continue to have the option of twice daily flights between Sydney and Los Angeles, with American Airlines to begin services on the route in December 2015, while Qantas will also begin Sydney-San Francisco services next month. Customers will also continue to have the option of nine flights per week from Melbourne to Los Angeles and daily flights from Brisbane.

To meet strong demand on the Dallas/Fort Worth route, Qantas’ A380-operated services from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth will increase from six per week to daily from April 2016, connecting more Australians to American Airlines’ biggest hub.

A commercial policy will be made available later today.

QF has not said that QF11 will be going to 1 weekly 747. This is a rumor.

I'm still trying to work out why QF would need to do QF11 1 x weekly with a 747? Isn't there enough capacity to do SYD-DFW daily with an A380 without impacting on daily SYD-LAX A380's?
It would just seem odd to have daily F MEL-LAX, but not SYD-LAX? Surely SYD-LAX is one of those routes that sustains F?

In your dreams!

QF has applied to the Australian International Air Services Commission for an increase in frequencies to Hong Kong from 25 services per week to 28 services per week. So it is safe to assume the freed up A333 will be used to provide extra services to HKG.

The question is where from. My guess is SYD as it will allow them to offer a double daily service.

Probably another SYD or MEL - HKG daily or once per two days for that 330.

I am thinking additional SYD-HKG flights is more likely. With QF 117/118 (the 'new' afternoon SYD-HKG service) operating 4 times per week, it makes perfect sense to use the additional capacity to make it a daily service.

PER - DXB perhaps?

I suspect the main reason it won't be Perth that gets it though is the lack (read no) A330 pilots based in PER.

I guess the only way PER has a chance is if the slots QF obtain for these new flights match almost exactly with the existing ones they hold (i.e arrive around 1800 and depart around 1930) which are used for the daily SYD, MEL and BNE flights. Could the aircraft could route MEL-HKG-PER-HKG-MEL to avoid needing to base a crew in Perth?

If the flights are at other times I would be shocked if it wasn't SYD double daily. I'm not sure a 3x weekly to PER (or anywhere other than additional capacity to the east coast) would cut it against CX.

It is not slots they are after (though that may be an issue too), it is the right to fly the extra flights.

That's really not an issue. Very easy to pax crew or have them operate a SYD-PER-xx_ with the 330

Would have thought with Perth being Qantas A330 central (domestic) there would be no shortage of A330 pilots out west.

It is simple for QF to get 'rights' to extra flights to HKG. They just have to ask IASC to assign them more from the 45 available to Australian carriers. It's runway slots at HKG that could be an issue.

Looks like Sydney is losing a first class option once a week :( On Wednesday (18NOV15) afternoon local time, Qantas gradually updated its inventory for Sydney – Los Angeles route, which sees the oneWorld member reduces operation from 10 to 7 weekly. The frequency reduction will take place from 25APR16. In addition, Tuesday's operation for QF011/012 service will be switching from Airbus A380 to Boeing 747-400, as First Class service is no longer available for reservation.
