Hi all,

Heading off to the States in July and wanting to do a drive from LAX - LAS. Was looking at a Ford Mustang (or "similar") for the 400ish mile drive. At this point arguscarhire is coming out ahead with $115 for a day which includes all the insurance, unlimited mileage, return empty fuel, one way rental fee included etc.

Seems pretty good to me but thought I'd post on here to see if anyone had a better deal for what I was after or any other suggestions for the drive. We'll be landing in LA in the morning and looking to drive out of the airport straight to Vegas that day if that helps. The car rental is really for no more than 1 day. Thanks

I use cheap-car-rental.com in the States. The cars are through Dollar and I hired a Mustang from LAX about 2 weeks ago (and also drove it to LAS, however returned to LAX). I can confirm they're using the Mustangs at the moment.

Rate seems to be $76 online for what you're after.

Thanks for the link N860CR - Just tried doing a booking on that site and the rate shows $140 Pick up LAX and drop of LAS - Dollar airport counter. Could you let me know how you got the $76 rate for a Ford Mustang convertible?

It's going to depend on what date you're after... however I did locate that price for a random June date. Make sure your rental period is less than 24 hours.

Ah gotcha - must be my dates then but I will try the sub 24 hour rental period. Cheers!

Just watch 'premium' vehicles don't attract a one way fee. My preferred vehicle in the US at present is a Charger which is classed as a standard vehicle. Good value via Alamo, my most recent Charger below on the way to Palmdale to cut across towards Vegas.

Good advice overall, but I believe that CA and NV are two of the states that have regulated against one-way fees. YMMV.

I think that is correct, however, Hertz for example, just block all except the "standard" cars for 1 way rentals...

Thanks all for the input, much appreciated. After checking dates and doing the sub 24 hour rental as well arguscarhire comes in cheaper especially when you factor in the one way rental fees, fuel provided and return empty so will go with them.

Cheers
