HI guys, I have a BNE-LAX on QF15 in Y+ booked which lands 0650 @T4 LAX I have an LAX-DFW on AA2430 which was booked for 0945 from T4.

I assumed this would be plenty of time as close to 3 hours from same terminal. Today I received an email from AA saying they have rescheduled the flight to 0915 which brings it down to just under 2.5 hours transit. These are on separate tickets also. I know this has been asked by others before and typically three hours is the go. Is it likely that I am still safe or should I push the flight out as believe the next flight out is @ 1000.

Personally - I would push to the next one if that is convenient.

There have been reports that LAX immigration is now allowing an express lane for those with tight connections, but I haven't yet seen it for myself.

In any event, there are a number of flights arriving at that time, and even security at T4 to connect to your next flight is quite busy at that time of day.

I would suggest you are cutting it fine if on separate tickets.

I pushed it back to the 1000 flight. It was only 15 mins after my original one and gives me that buffer again. I asked about a Yup but they were asking for $1100 for myself and my partner! I can buy the tickets off the website fresh for cheaper than that.

That certainly seems safer.. I pushed my flights back in December to give myself 3.5 hours, rather than take a direct flight to MCO with a connection of just over 2 hours, and in the end I got through customs, and T4 security in just less than an hour! I also was on a separate ticket, so didn't want to take the risk.

In reference to an express queue, I did see them ushering people to the front of the line where their connections were tight, first time I've seen that at LAX. I wish they did that for me 12 months earlier, I wouldn't then have had to run through the terminals!

Despite being two separate tickets, as both QF & AA are in OneWorld, when you checkin at BNE Intl tell them you want your bags checked thru to DFW on AA2430. Just have a copy of your AA eticket that will show what class you're booked in on AA eg Q,V etc. You will more than likely also receive your AA boarding pass in BNE.

This scenario is the same as having all flights booked in the same pnr as it has the same end result.

Your bags will be tagged through to DFW, however you must clear customs in LAX with your bags then drop them off with AA after that.

When we flew on QF93 MEL/LAX in November I noticed the "Express Connection" lanes which happened to be right down the other end from where we arrived as we watched a mad scramble of pax who were on our flight which was an hour late run down to these lanes as they were connecting on to QF107 LAX/JFK.

Yes, I've used the 'Express' system at LAX. You get a ticket similar to the SYD, MEL system and you'll be directed to the queue, which is at the end of the Immigration Hall.

The ticket is also good for Customs.

However, the tickets are handed out at the end of the air bridge after you landed as they check whether you can have one.

The security screening that you need to go through may take a long time too. Don't try to go through with the masses, there's a smaller area that may have shorter queues. There are occasionally TSA staff rounding people up for quicker treatments if you've a tight connection.

P.S. I was on QF107, which is always late...

Definently good decision - if there is a safer option, take it because you would have been stressing the whole BNE/LAX flight if the flight was running late. I was in LAX a few months ago and even with all the people having the connection cards, they were still calling a lot of people so I think they were stuck among the rest of us waiting for hours. You can never rely on the customs/immigrations staff to usher you through.......

That will unfortunately not help the OP to protect him should he miss his flight in case of massive lineup or the usual US Immigration quirks.

However a good idea to save eventual lineup's at LAX.
