Amazing timing this thread...
Yesterday I flew DXB-AMM-LHR on RJ. Transit in AMM was quick and painless.
Got to lounge, relaxed for a bit, headed to gate T-60. Got to gate, went to get out iPad, not in bag, eek.
What to do? Boarding is to be called in 5-10 mins, no idea where to even begin reporting it lost. First thought was Ok well that sucks, I'll have to replace it in LOTFAP in a few days and file an insurance claim. Then a more rational thought hits me and I go off looking for an information desk. I find an RJ luggage counter and try and explain my situation to the clerk, however it seems he doesn't speak much (any?) English. So I get a notepad/pen out of my bag and write down my name, incoming flight number, seat number, to/from (DXB-AMM), ongoing flight number and to/from (AMM-LHR) and a description of my iPad (it has a blue cover) and the word LOST in capitals.
He smiles at me, I smile back. I'm not sure if he understood anything I said, or what he would do with the piece of paper I had written all the details on. I tried asking for a manager, he again didn't reply and smiled at me.
I left the desk feeling quite down and resigned to the fact I'd be buying a replacement in a few days.
Walked back to the gate as boarding was called. Stood in the line for about 10 minutes. As I arrived at the gate and presented my boarding pass and passport to the agent, they were scanned and returned to me, along with my iPad! I was then asked to step aside and sign a form saying that I had collected it.
I couldn't believe it.
Hats off to the whole RJ AMM crew!
