I just saw some information on Facebook that Qantas is considering another level above Qantas Points Club Plus - qualification possibly 800k points per membership year. Benefits they are tossing up include - 200 status credit rollover, first class lounge access passes, Qantas holiday vouchers etc

A million points of 'activity' would be easy for some, but even with a high earning CC, the 800k point total seems very pie in the sky. While I can imagine some might get there, I imagine they're already paying for F and don't need F lounge passes, or a status credit rollover. Additionally, things like a $250 wine/hotel voucher seem woefully inadequate to that crowd.

Thinking about it logically, the member who transfers 800k points a year is probably using a centurion card, but would still be spending $640k to get there. Then you have the issue that they only count up to 125k points per transaction. I know AMEX has offered a few nice bonuses to me the more I transfer in one go, but if Points Club only counts up to 125k, it actually dissuades me from transferring big sums of points.

What does intrigue me though is the mention of a complimentary business lounge membership... and if this will mean they are looking to sell domestic business lounge (only, not first) access in the future. Could be quite the money spinner when things get back to normal.

I have to agree. This is a huge target to reach and makes it extremely difficult with the 125k cap per transaction.

the million points is the total of both earn and used. So 500 000 points earned.
approx. 40000 per month earn.

I also got a Points Club survey, but as I'm only a regular "Points Club" member my questions were different. They wanted to know which benefits I valued, and what it would take to convince me to go for Points Club Plus. They also asked if there are any benefits I thought they should add to the program.

New 3rd Points Club tier in the pipeline:

Required qualifying points earn could be 800k-1 million points per membership year.

Proposed 3rd tier benefits could be:
  • Complimentary Business Lounge membership, which would provide access to Qantas' domestic and international business class lounges
  • four invitations per year to Qantas First Class lounges (in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore and Los Angeles)
  • roll over up to 200 status credits from one year to the next
  • $250 vouchers for Qantas Hotels and Qantas Wine
  • AVIS President's Club membership
  • free travel insurance
  • VIP dinner and Master of Wine 'tutorial'
  • triple points for 'healthy habits' such as walking and cycling with the Qantas Wellbeing app
  • monogrammed Qantas first class pyjamas
  • 'priceless experiences' such as a behind-the-scenes tour with Qantas' Chief Pilots
  • exclusive offers such as "early access to on-going offers, bonus points and discounts"

Very interesting! No way I'd get near that - It would be difficult without putting business spend of some sort through a personal card, which would probably come under more of an eagle eye.

Other restriction being 100k per transaction (which in my experience is 100k per supplier per day - two 60k transactions from Amex in the same day = 100k) - so monthly sweep credit cards become tricky.

Required qualifying points earn could be 800k-1 million points per membership year.

If this tier eventuates they would need to remove the 125k cap per transaction. Most spenders at this level would be doing so on an Amex Plat or Centurion and are only likely to transfer lump sums during bonus promotions.

Other than the Amex Ascent cards, I'm only aware of two QFF direct earning cards with a decent earn rate + uncapped limit: the Qantas Money Titanium and Amex Qantas Ultimate. The issue with these cards is they sweep monthly, so you'd need to sustain a rather constant ~85k per month throughout the year to qualify. Peaky spending habits (quarterly PAYG folk I'm looking at you) wouldn't qualify unless split over multiple cards.

Very interesting! No way I'd get near that

No way I'd get near it either. I already need to plan out my churn strategy to hit 350k for PC+ as it is!

I managed around 620k in sign up bonuses for 2020, so Points Club Plus was easy enough but not sure about making it all the way to 800k or even 1m. I'm not Centurion level material!

My business/ATO spend is fairly low compared to others here that can put regular 6 figures through the ATO.

The ET article mention that the 1Millions points target is activity points: earning plus reedeming. If Qantas pick this one, it's not completly out of reach for people who already manage points plus club, especially once international flight (and associated rewards flight or upgrade resume).

In my case, I will reach 870k activitie points this year, and I could push it to 1M with 4 months to go. I am surprised as my initial reaction was, "no way". I don t own a business.

Right, fair enough. One million including redemptions would be much easier. Anytime a family member is going to book a flight with their points, I'll transfer them into my account and book on their behalf ;)

I'm sure the source was the same, but this was being discussed on AFF last night ;)

I’ll struggle to retain Points Club+ this membership year as it is as there is no flying to pay for. All next year’s tours are paid up as they were moved from this year, and it’s too early to book and pay for associated flights. So I received no benefit from my first year in. No way could I reach a higher level as an individual. It seems to be marketed more to big business owners, or perhaps execs who pay themselves and claim back.

Perhaps Qantas needs a few more pax in the F lounge to keep it open?

No doubt ausbt “received an email from one of our readers” with the tip.

Whomever wins the 1m QFF points lottery will get themselves in!!

Good to know. I received the survey, but haven't bothered to do it as yet.

Points Club Plus member here. The current program benefits are a huge let down. I don’t see why anyone would chase a higher level for more benefits they probably already have.

They need to offer more status credits.

I'm points club plus, but didn't receive a survey.

I'd have to say that the offer of free travel insurance would be attractive. I don't think the 800K level is unreasonable for that. It's definitely not unachievable if you try.

The discount on wine is something I value. I have deliberately sought to achieve point club plus membership earlier than I may have gotten to that point to secure this benefit.

I have no interest in status credits.
