Hi All,

Next month I'll be arriving on QF1 into LHR and need to transfer to Gatwick for my next flight (Easyjet - yay!)

Time *shouldn't* be too much of an issue, I land at 6.35 and the next flight is at 10.55 from Gatwick, however it is a Monday morning which could be interesting. I'm travelling in F into LHR so hoping I can clear customs etc reasonably quickly.

I've done some research on how to do it and I've come to the conclusion that I cant be bothered getting the train(s) and the bus seems do-able, but transferring by private car would be the easiest option. Is there anyone they could recommend for this that they have used recently? I don't want to be getting off the plane and find that the guy has left/didnt turn up/has no idea where to go/etc

Any info would be great - thanks

Hayden

Hi Hayden

I used to frequently use the Nation Express bus between LGW and LHR and would always recommend it as the best way to get between airports, they are very good at going from right outside the terminals you want, they also have a toilet on board so if the traffic is bad on the M25 you won't suffer after all the booze on the flight! Price is about 30 GBP bought from desk in terminal.

Sorry don't know much about the private cars.

Cheers

For something like 500 GBP / hour you could charter an R44, or even better for 2000+ GBP / hour you could charter an S76. That would be the quickest way. And you did say you were travelling in F!

Perhaps a more realistic option would be to book a car. I'd suggest using the company that Emirates uses for all their J and F chauffeur drives, as they have a huge presence and Heathrow and seem very reliable. Pretty sure it is Tristar.

The “Nation Express” bus (cptchris) seems a good way to go.

For the curious the train option that, has a degree of security about it, is:

Tube to Victoria and then the Gatwick Express takes about 90 minutes and costs around 30 quid.

A variation would be to substitute the Tube with the Heathrow Express which would reduce the time, add comfort, cost more and involve another change.

I've actually since has a couple of private car options recommended to me - both around the 60-70 pound mark. Given the bus is going to be 50 between us, I think an extra 10/20 is worth spending. (providing the car turns up that is!)

I love that you'd fly F to LHR then hop on easyjet including change of airport?

Where are you going and why isnt it a connection on BA ex-LHR (included in the ticket for the same price usually)?

I'm going to Sardinia.

The options are transfer to Gatwick and go direct to Olbia or I fly Heathrow to Fiumicino and then another flight to Olbia. I try to avoid Rome airport at all cost (and that cost is having to fly EasyJet)

I did the transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick last September arriving at similar time on a Monday but had a flight at 9.30am so there was some pressure. The main things to factor in are immigration queue, traffic and whether flight gets delayed coming in. I flew in using QF and checked their landings for a couple weeks and saw that usually they were on time but occassionally came in up to 1 hour late. Immigration was OK for me as my flight got in early, but even the F queue will still take a little while as many flights are arriving then. Traffic was heavy that time of morning but factor in being held up for a some amount of time. I had booked a private taxi and it was nice and easy to walk out and find the guy with your name and be driven there directly. I suggest booking a private taxi for about 60 or 70 quid and not worry about it and you should make it there easily (barring unforeseen issues).

Aha, interesting. Have a great trip!

Great, that's what I wanted to hear. I wasn't too bothered by the connection time, and I had a look on expertflyer with the stats for on time arrivals for that flight, so I've been somewhat prepared.

Who did you use for your private taxi?

The National express bus is £25 one way and takes 40-50 minutes generally.
