Hi everyone...newbie here with a question that has been doing my head in somewhat!

I'll be flying from SYD to KEF (Reykjavik, Iceland) via LHR later this year. SYD to LHR is on QF, and LHR to KEF is with IcelandAir. I am a Qantas Club Bronze member and Silver FF. I'll be flying in Y. I think the IcelandAir flight departs from Terminal 1.

I'm wondering what options I might have for lounge access at LHR, as the wait there will be just on 9 hours from what I can see. Basically I'm just after somewhere to freshen up and grab a meal, and do a little work. If access to BA lounges is not possible, can anyone recommend any other paid access lounges?

Ticket not booked yet, am wondering if better to go QF or BA to LHR? Or, am I better off going via another European port - e.g. Frankfurt?

A fellow QC Bronze / Silver FF was able to access the BA lounge at LHR on the same route, same carriers, two years ago, but I understand lounge access has changed somewhat?

Any advice gratefully received!!

Are you Bronze or Silver with QF? In any event only Gold and Platinum status get oneworld access so you are back to your Qantas Club Card.
If Icelandair is T1 there are no oneworld lounges there so even a Plat would not have access (although would to an arrivals lounge)

Assuming going back the same way, as a Qantas Club member you would have access to the BA T3 Galleries Lounge.

For a 9hr layover (assuming daytime ) I would be getting out of the airport and going to the city.

Thanks for your reply. I'm a Silver FF, which obviously gives nothing on OW.

From what I can see, IcelandAir is T1, so no access, as I suspected. So to while away the 9 hours, I can go into the city. If I do want to freshen up etc are there any day use rooms at hotels near LHR?

No issue going back - I'll be having some time in London, so lounge access not a biggie.

Thanks again for your helpful advice.

Check here for some dayroom options. Note that while it recommends the paid Hoppa bus service, for certain hotels dependent on where they are (i.e. very close to LHR) you can travel for free on 'normal' public buses.

Icelandair appears to use the Servisair lounge at T1 for their Y+ and J pax. This lounge offers paid entry as well (GBP17.95, earliest entry 3 hours prior to scheduled departure). It does not have showers but appears to have everything else you would expect in a lounge.
