Apologies if this has already been clarified earlier in this thread.

I have friends (he is SG, she is NB) going to Denmark early next year on QF to LHR (T3) then BA to CPH (out of T5). They have three young (8-11) children. Fare pricing means they have a 6h layover in LHR and she was thinking of paying to join the Qantas Club to ensure lounge access in LHR. I pointed out the T5 issues and to hold her horses before paying for QC and finding that it may be of no benefit in LHR.

The questions I would like to confirm are:

If she joins the QC, can they be assured of access to the T3 lounge on arrival to shower etc. and then transfer to T5 for the LHR-CPH flight?

Is the T3 lounge family-friendly so that they can be assured of getting access for their children?

BA are stringent on the guest rules, they're not lenient like QF ergo unless you have enough guest spots for each child, you're not likely to get an extra in... In regards to the other question, I think you'll find that unless flying J or F then arrivals access won't be allowed so you'd only hope to be able to use the T5 lounge (which doesn't have showers IIRC, unless it's now changed).

Another option is purchasing Priority Pass ; you can then use the Air Canada arrivals lounge @ T3.

For QP T5 Galleries access we need to wait for Redroo's response but they most definitely have had nice Spa and shower facilities the last 3 (?) years. Have spent about 6 hours there in July and will spend another 6 in April (how I hate these awful connections after a trip from SYD). For the number of kids allowed I'll let some of the parents respond to that but I don't think the BA gatekeepers are the most lenient in the world

Actually come to think of it, I must have been thinking of the EDI lounge

Arrivals access at T3 is the AA lounge and one needs to be flying in J or F to gain access. There have been some reports that WP's have gained access flying in Y+.

The other alternative is the Air Canada lounge by using Priority Pass. Bear in mind that it is US$27 for additional guests so it could be quite pricey unless the staff behind the desk can be sweet talked into letting the children in for free.

As other have posted QF has yet to confirm lounge access in T5 for QP's.

Another (cheaper) option would be to head to one of the transit hotels (6 hours should be enough to get out, get there, get back).

I know it might not appeal too much but what we did on a long transit in HEL was to head into town for the day, forces you to stay awake to help get over the jetlag.

Irrespective of anything else; airside departures at T3 Terminal itself when -xLHR-CPH will not be accessible - so they would not be able to access the lounge.

I would not be spending any money on QP membership for T5 Galleries access. As others have mentioned children even between the ages stated of 8-11 are "guests" not children. If you don't have the required amount of guest spots then no access, and no discretion applied. I would be looking at paid lounges or possibly day rooms at one of the hotels ( Sofitel closest to T5 but not sure whether day rooms available).

Thanks, all.

It's as I suspected. I've just passed the disappointing news to my friends but will keep watching the T5 Galleries thread to see what Red Roo comes up with.
