I have not posted for a while, been too busy between numerous flights between MEL & SYD, also a couple of hops to country NSW, Dubbo (QF) and Griffith (REX).

Just before Xmas, I traveled business MEL/SYD/MEL 9 times. 5 of these were purchased flights and 2 were points upgrades and 2 were freebee upgrades! Yes it's true, 2 upgrades in less than a week, I must point out however the planes in both instances were bulging at the seams and in one case, I arrived late at SYD on a full economy fare and even though the flight was on final call and I had only carry on, I was refused a boarding pass at the gate.

I reminded the staff of the guaranteed seat policy for Platinum members and was immediately upgraded on the next flight - I couldn't complain! (I also got to say gidday to Graham – the “nice” barman at the Qantas club while having a quick pre flight beverage)

David – the ex sparky turned pit boss (head steward), I never got to say Merry Xmas, I know you read the Frequent Flyer forums, so Merry Xmas – belated and thanks for the constant supply of “crownies” on ice up front, it makes the flight wonderful forcing down 3 or 4 – hahaha

3 days ago I decided to travel to NZ to see mum who is in hospital, good wife told me to use some FF points, not truly believing I would have a chance, I plugged in next Mondays date with a return a few days later, MEL / AKL / MEL – business. I was astounded to have multiple choices on the flight times. I reversed out and tried economy, same thing… Way to Go QANTAS – this is the second time I have used FF points for flights and the second time it has worked as the scheme is supposed to! Maybe someone can answer this, are there more award seats available to Platinum members say over Gold or Silver? I have never really thought about it before…

Anyway, enough rambling, everyone have a good new year, may all your take off’s be bumpy and all your landings be smooth.

Which guaranteed seat policy is this then? Only one I know of guarantees a seat of you purchase before midday on the day of travel.
