Some may view this as 'strange', as in, why bother ?

However, I am taking a holiday break to coincide with the King's Coronation on 6th. May, 2023.

Anybody here going to be in London at that time ?

I'll be staying six nights at the Crowne Plaza Heathrow, and getting the Tube train into the city each day.

Would be interested in hearing from anyone who will be attending in an 'official ' capacity ( via PM, if you wish ).

*** Just for interest ....
The following cost me 130,000 QFF points, and $1,063. in 'taxes'.

Sydney - HK ( Cathay )
HK - Heathrow ( BA )
Heathrow - SIN ( BA )
SIN - Sydney ( QF )

Six nights at Crowne Plaza
( Diamond status ) 149,000 IHG points.
Free buffet breakfast each day.

My schedule lands me at LHR on the 4th, dashing out west and in Manchester on the 6th. Not planning to be in London at all.

Eurovision is being held in Liverpool at the end of that week. As is our granddaughters Christening. But we aren't attending. I think we will be in Jeddah.

Having being in London when last years Platinum celebration was on, we were worried the coronation might have been the last week in May as that would scuttle our plans for son and family to come to London and stay with us. Too hard for them. Plus hotel prices would sky rocket and our booked Airbnb would be cancelled.

Possibility we may be in Manchester in May. Heard rumours that Simon Rogan may be opening a new restaurant in the town…

I land in ZRH on the 4th May, I am looking maybe heading to LHR. Just seeing how the rest of my trip can be changed to do it

We will be in London at the end of a 6 week sojourn when the Coronation takes place. May go in for a look around in the days before, but planning to join the local street party at our daughter's place on the day. As an ex-BP staffer I keep asking her about any invitations that might come her way, but realistically we will be joining in with her local community for the event.

I've been in UK for a couple of weeks now and coronation excitement is only just starting to build, 5 days out.

This past weekend I've seen bunting being put up in suburban streets zigzagging across between houses, attached to people's wifi routers and other essential infrastructure 😂 Among my U.K. relatives there is polarity between 'definitely won't be watching' to 'definitely will be watching and will be hosting/attending a function'. Nobody seems to be undecided 😂

Souvenirs which have caught my eye are the official program for £10 which seems to contain no actual official info and just a lot of ancient photos we've all seen before, lots of commemorative tins of biscuits or shortbread, and the M&S Colin the Caterpillar Coronation Cake which I am seriously considering trying to bring back home 😂 In Cambridge in Fitzbillies I spotted 'coronation macarons' in red, white and blue but unfortunately what I saw was the promo version and they weren't getting their stocks until after I'd left. They let me taste one from the staff supplies and I would describe it as 'generic macaron flavour' 😜. There were also 'coronation cupcakes' iced in red, white and blue.

But on the whole until this bank holiday weekend I was having to look quite hard for coronation stuff. Not that I'm a huge royalist or anything, I just thought it would be a bigger national occasion seeing hardly anyone has seen a live British coronation before.

Considering Colin the Caterpillars are vegan, is the cake vegan?

The local community in London SE 26 is still fairly relaxed. Our street will be closed for the "celebration" day on Sunday. Bunting and flags starting to go up, and lots of foreign visitors in the key areas (eg around Green Park and the palace).
