Hi, booked with emirates (on separate flight itinerary) AMS -> SG and SG -> MELB (have 12+hours overnight layover)

I think since it's a separate itinerary, i need to clear immigrations and claim my luggage right?

Was hoping if anyone could recommend places to stay near the airport after immigrations (was thinking of booking a lounge pass with bed but the lounge is in the departure side of the airport which I think I wont have access to because I won't be able to check in) or is it better to just book a hotel in cbd area and take a cab to/from the airport?

I don't think that necessarily follows. EK may send your bags straight through (although a 12+ hour break might be a stretch); others will know better

Crowne Plaza Changi is a popular choice amongst AFFers who don't want to go far. Its within the arrivals complex and about a 10 min walk after you walk out of immigration. Then you could visit the Jewel etc.

thank you, will look into Crowne Plaza :)

What time do you arrive and then depart?

Whilst the CP is convenient, it’s not particularly cheap. There are probably other cheaper options not far on the MRT if you want to save some $.

arriving in sg 21:45, departing 10:10 to melb.
i did call emirates to confirm if i do need to claim my checked in luggage, but they told me to check with qantas since the tickets were booked via qantas portal (points). called qnatas right after they said i do need to claim them because they're booked in 2 separate travel itinerary

I’d consider looking for a hotel close to the MRT back to the airport - you have plenty of time for a 10am departure. Depending on how you feel on arrival in SIN either Taxi (quicker) or MRT (cheaper) to Hotel. You can use pretty much any Oz CC/DC to tap on/off the MRT now.

thanks. its cool we dont need to purchase a separate for MRT. would make things more convenient

i was originally hoping for the luggage to be checked through and just spend the layover in changi / jewel. even looked into those 6 hours lounge pass (w/ bed) but those are all after check in/immigrations

It’s still possible that EK will check through your luggage. Can’t hurt asking - just think ahead what you might need o/n in SIN that’s allowable under LAG restrictions.

Otherwise, this is a great idea also.
If going to a hotel via the MRT then you can store luggage at the airport. (Smarte Carte luggage storage T1 and T3

I would also think you need to pass immigration and re-check in bags, however when I asked this here on AFF recently, others were saying that you can visit the Transfer desks and they will find and transfer checked in luggage?

@csgo - you need to clear immigration to visit the Jewel - its outside the airport. You can ride the terminal shuttle trains that go through the Jewel, but to actually walk around you need to exit the airport (it's kind of in the middle of all the terminals). and also, while the Jewel building itself is open 24hrs, most of the shops and eateries are only open til about 10pm, so, after your arrival.

Though , I think the only "landside" luggage storage is outside T3 near the MRT station.

Most other Smarte Carte luggage storage are "transit" which are "airside" including T1 which only has transit storage.

@csgo, this means once you get through immigration with your luggage, just catch the skytrain to T3 for public luggage storage. You will need to anyway if you intend on catching the MRT or staying at Crowne Plaza.

I feel in this case, you'll probably want a hotel regardless of luggage situation. So perhaps the best option is to pack a change of clothes in carry-on and ask the Emirates desk at check in if they can check through to MEL.

You can also easily taxi to downtown and back (it's maybe 15-20mins depending on where exactly you want to go) and around $20-35SGD each way.

Park Avenue Changi Hotel, it was one of the cheapest out there, 180$ per night
I stayed at the Park Avenue Changi Hotel recently on an overnight layover. I thought it was good value and convenient - right across the road from the Expo station and on one side of a 'plaza' near the Changi City shopping mall.

Best is book your luggage all the way to final destiny when you book in at Sydney.. You have two options , one is book inside hotel at the airport and stay there and other is just clear immigration (without main baggage) and take a taxi to city area and spend some time shopping etc.. come back to airport clear immigration and if 2 more hrs left for the flight use a lounge or look around the airport.

...and is hideously expensive.
