Hi all
I have been scouring websites, PDS’s, comparitive tools, Pointhacks and T&C’s but I cant seem to find the right Credit Card. The criteria I am looking for (which seems to be really hard to find)
is as follows:

– Must have a Visa/ Mastercard attached to the account
– Preferably not an excessive annual fee but this may not be doable (not a deal breaker)
– No monthly points cap
– no annual points cap
– earn rate of at least 0.75 points per $1 spent

Are there any cards anyone might suggest that meet the above mentioned criteria at all?

ANZ Black Qantas FF

If you only want qff points then they are much the same as Qantas keeps it $1 to 1 qff point.

Citi prestige has 2 points per $1. Annual fee is high, $790 but if you are spending $20k per month then you can easily get the fee down.

I'd sign up, call after having a few solid months of high spending and ask for a recurring annual fee waiver.

They'd be insane to deny you that with your spend level.

More recently, upwards of $20k plus per month

What are your overall goals regarding QFF points? Flight redemptions? Upgrades? Do you have status with QFF?

If you want to redeem on QF flights you can be better off NOT earning QF points and earning say Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific) or AAdvantage Miles (American Airlines) - both which have lower/cheaper redemption rates for the exact same flights on Qantas.

Gone are the days of 'which card is best' without knowing how you plan to use the points.

I am somewhat new to the QFF points game. More recently I have been able to inflate my level of spending (and hence, credit card oriented points earning). This month, using a decent card I would likely have earned around 50k points, however since my card has been 'enhanced' I will only earn around 25k points. For the forseeable future, the earning of points will not be so much an issue as accruing status will be. I travel interstate infrequently for work and annually I fly to NZ to visit family. I imagine my points will be used to upgrade some flights and long term perhaps for flight redemptions. I decided upon Qantas as the simple option at least for now. I am not as up to speed regarding booking flights via other airlines (ie AA or CP) as I would like to be. In addition, I have the ability to also inflate my monthly EDR rewards earn through Woolies, so I am putting all my eggs in 1 basket I suppose.

I also noticed that I missed one criteria on my list - earnings points on BPay transactions is a must!

Many of us would love to crack that CC holy grail - an AA earning card.

Cove is the exception here !

Your points are correct. Earning lots of points means nothing if redemptions are not there for you.

I think QF earn can make sense if you fly regularly (Platinum status or higher) and you are redeeming for upgrades.
If you have reasonable intl spend there are a handful of cards that become increasingly more attractive.

First point is to figure out what program you want the points going into. Your options are:
- Qantas
- Any other program

Cannot do both while maximizing the card cost to benefits ratio.

If redemptions are the major key then you can earn ~30% more virgin points over qantas with a card like citi prestige. This is a massive advantage and you'll have the added benefit of increased availability and lower taxes.

Asia Miles (Cathay) is another option to send the points to you would earn the same 1:1 but have a lower award redemption rate on many routes. You would use it the same way you book using qantas points except through asiamiles.com

to be honest i wouldnt even bother factoring in woolies EDR earn on qantas as a benefit for qantas unless you're spending big. I used to burn around $200K/year at woolies and it made sense for me but if it's a $200/week grocery shop then it's hardly worth it for 170 points/week as a factor when looking at an overall approach. It might make sense to earn those woolies points and get your 10k QFF points/year and use that for a cheap upgrade SYD-MEL one way. Then use your much more valuable Asia miles or virgin velocity points to buy the actual flight on qantas/virgin.

I may seem anti-qantas here but the reality is unless you are in a particular demographic you simply won't be able to maximize QF points to the same degree you can with another program.
