Hello.

I am starting to plan my next trip overseas and I am already going cross-eyed looking at fares. ;)

My question is, apart from signing up for every possible airline newsletter, is there a more efficient way when researching airfares?

I am looking to travel during Aug-Sep 2012. I have 105K Krisflyer miles but it looks like I've missed the boat for Saver Award flights.

I am planning to fly the following routes:
SYD-NYC
NYC-Europe...Ideally Paris or London but willing to go another city if it's cheaper or there is better availability
LON-SYD

I am more interested in getting a cheaper fare than accumulating FF points.

Any tips/hints you have to share are appreciated.

Thanks, pw.

The cheapest pacific crossings are usually on Air Pacific. They generally come in at about $3500 or for SYD-NAN-LAX. I'm not sure how they go for one-ways though...

Ex JFK try Air India or Kuwait Airways who do "tag" legs between London and NY and are usually pretty competitive. BA, AA etc won't be very cheap.

Coming back from the UK, Air Asia is an option in their "premium" class. You don't get a full business class service, but you do get a flat bed (sloped i think)

One of the best sites is bestflights (.com.au)

They list all the specials on dedicated boads... Asia/Europe/RTW etc.

Aside for the Air Pacific option, others include Garuda to Europe for around $3700 (full flat beds on the Indonesia-Europe sectors).

For around the world you might consider a mixed class fare... bestflights lisrts a Swiss combo with economy flights ex Australia to Asia with Cathay or Thai (for example) then onwards to Europe (free round trip in Europe as well in business) and America with Swiss in business (full flat beds) and then back from USA with someone like United (in economy - although you might invest in a Economy+ card with United to get seats with more leg room).

Pure business class for about $6899.

I agree a RTW fare would be the best ticket for you and Best Flights is a good place to do your research. Anecdotal evidence on the boards (often referred to as Best Frights LOL) suggests looking elsewhere to book tho.
