Hello There,

my wife and i along with a old friend bought some of those Singapore tickets from the .br site with the intention of finding somewhere fun to go from there. we have been talking about it for way to long and now its under a month untill we leave and we still cant figure out what to do with our time. We have spent enough time in Singapore on previous holidays so we want to get out of there asap and maximize our time else where .... but where to go! its with this in mind that i thought i'd ask this fine community if they have any suggestions! Currently we are trying to decide between Sri Lanka & Hong Kong (macow/shenzhen) as the flights are probably the most economical. Are there any tips for good rates on J class into or out of Singapore?

End of the day im open to going anywhere and if any of you have done good 10 day trips originating from Singapore i'd love to hear about them :)

We're going to Club Med on Bintan Island, just a 50 minute ferry ride from Singapore. We went through Singapore for our Maldives trip in early 2007 too.

What would you define as fun? Langkawi is cheap enough to get to and stay, as is Malaysia in general, Taiwan is a great place to go if your into food and history/crafts and is still not well marketed for what it has to offer.

If you are talking of Aug & Sri Lanka, you need to consider that the weather can be a bit variable-probably best to consider the centre or the east coast. We loved Sri Lanka when we visited in Feb 2012.

Mostly J tends to be expensive ex-SIN. Best deal to anywhere is probably LHR, FRA or CDG on Sri Lankan... Other than that CMB tends to be inexpensive on Sri Lankan too and CX often have cheap fares to/from BKK in J.

I actually visited Sri Lanka for a long weekend in 2010, and once outside Colombo (which was definitely not a highlight), it seemed a little more laid back than most of the subcontinent and I certainly enjoyed a diverse range of activities/sights ranging from beaches, tea plantations set amongst the hills, and a leopard spotting safari, as well as the general scenery of the highlands with a buddhist temple or two thrown in for good measure.

Agree, if you want have a bit of fun head to BKK on a LCC where a plethora of F and J cheap options are available, including F in the EK A380 for $500 each way.

10 days will give you ample time to do Penang (especially if you want to try hawker/street food), Langkawi and the Cameron Highlands.

Thanks so much for all the replies ... so much to think about and we are being even more indecisive than ever after these posts lol. I Like the idea of going to Taiwan, we stopped over there a few years ago on china air (or was it air china, i met a girl on a train that was very angry at me for getting the name of her national carrier mixed up) and had a great day and a half on the airlines bill but always thought it would be great to return and spend more time there. I haven't had much luck figuring out the cheep F and J out of BKK is there a trick to it? we decided to drop Sri Lanka thanks to dajop's post about the weather and we had not even talked about Penang/lankawi so we will have a look at them tonight.

so if i book a return flight from Taipei to Singapore and only travel on the first leg from Taipei to Singapore it will cost me around $580aud in J but if i just want to book a one way flight it will cost me about $1400aud. I dont get it!
