I am from California. New York is extremely expensive at most restaurants but you can look up famous deli's like Carnegies or Katz's and split one of their monstrous pastramis. Katz's has a sign over the table where Meg Ryan in a movie faked an cough and a lady at a nearby table said, I'll have what she's having." There are also movie tours that are fun and not too pricey. Take the metro vs. taxi. Get out of LA. It is a horrible place. Ok, Disneyland is cool but that's in Anaheim. If you rent a car, better to drive up highway one, one of the most magnificent drives in the world. Here you can segway to Hearst Castle and if you're coming in November or later, see the elephant seals lounging on the beach at Point Sal. If you need more USA info, please feel free to ask me at Sjgrado..yahoo.

Im staying in Hollywood from 21st oct - 25th. Going to see Conan O'Brien. Any tips? Ive noticed EVERYTHING in LA is spread out, like everything is about 20 mins away from each other. Hollywood is 20 mins fro the beach, beach is 20 mins from central los angeles, anaheim is 20 mins from los angeles. As im also doing some house scouting whilst there, any areas you'd recommend?

What's the cost of LA like?

Re: Budget for USA!

We find most of Los Angeles very reasonable.
A chunk of Hollywood is a bit suss so I would stay closer to the beach if you can change.
You hire a car in LA. For shopping we go to Camarillo Premium Outlet but not on weekends. Hundreds of shops are there and it is worth the drive.

Re: Budget for USA!

We stayed by a park at a Sheraton and there were drug dealers in the park. There are good parts of Hollywood and bad bits too.
The beach areas west of the 405 are nicer.

Re: Budget for USA!

Pretty much along the coast from Redondo to Santa Monica are the areas around the beaches near LAX. Manhattan Beach is nice as is Santa Monica.
