Colleague recently left iPad in seat pocket on airplane. Guess what...it was never recovered. Insurance claim got him new generation iPad though.

At Pullman recently, i noticed the concierge draw was full of adapters of all types.

I've forgotten swimmers in hotel gym, not found, but nothing else I remember.

I know that if you lose stuff at an airport it eventually goes to auction (In Australia at least).

I used to stay at China World Hotel in Beijing on a regular basis - prolly 70+ stays in 8 year period - checked in one time and 5 minutes after entering room I get call from Reception telling me I had left some property in in-room safe last visit 2 mths earlier and it would be sent straight up to my room.

I had no idea what this could have been but had a knock on door where pretty little staff member hands me an envelope. Inside was a cheap old pen I had picked up somewhere and 6 x crisp red Mao notes - RMB600 - could net believe it - floored me.

Sometimees you have to ask the right people whether it has been found. I carelessly left a USB stick in the computer at the Hilton Garden Inn in Washington DC. The first reception clerk that I asked quickly ruffled through a drawer of stuff and said no. After a bit of panic and sweating of the potential damage that someone could do to me, I went back later that day and asked someone else. A more careful look through the same drawer produced it.

My children keep sending me dementia information!

My Ipod ended up in the seat pocket on Friday, rang QF and sure enough they had it.

I left my Indiana Jones hat in the rental car at LAX.

It's probably landfill by now. Or being worn by the guy in the yard.

Those draws can be very handy when you need a power supply.

My dad was visiting the US a couple of years back, he took over a lot of cash, i think about AUD$2000 or 4000 to travel with, older people, no real credit cards etc... He stayed in a hotel in Atlanta before going to South Carolina, anyway got a call that he had lost the money, didn't know where it was or what had happened to it, he'd notified the hotel but no staff had reported seeing it or taking etc, searched the room but no sign of it, so no one could figure out what had happened to it... I had to book his room for a week in South Carolina from Australia etc with my credit card... Pretty bad blow and he was in low spirits...

Anyway, while he is staying at this next hotel he gets a call from the hotel in Atlanta that someone had found the money, i think it was in a telephone book in the room, obviously he had decided to hide it there thinking it would be safe then somehow forgot it etc... I think the people who found it might have been part of some wedding party that were staying at the hotel, but that was an amazing bit of luck getting such honest people that handed it in and then the hotel were able to get the money to my dad!!!

Left an Akubra on the hook on the back of the women's toilet Brisbane domestic....no, I didn't get it back and it wasn't a style that was still in production. New one was never as good. At the time was living in remote FNQ and Akubras and dri as a bone were de rigour.

Left my Bose 15 NC headphones on a QF flight. Had my business card in the case, call from QF in the taxi on the way home. Brilliant!

I tend to lose small items, those that can fall out of one's pocket or be placed on a table in a hotel room and forgotten about. That usually ends up being my earphones - I lose them so often that I usually have two pairs with me when travelling. Of course ever since losing my $200 Bose MIE2i earphones last year in Wellington I've been buying cheaper ones.

Strangely enough though, I haven't managed to lose my Shure canalphones which I've had for about 10 years (and they're still perfect).

Other than that, I really like leaving my phone and camera chargers in hotel rooms for the next guest to make use of.

Despite all this I've never lost my wallet, or my phone (not bad, considering I got my first mobile phone 17 years ago).

Walking out of Heathrow a few months ago my 12 year old realised that she had left a small handbag on the aircraft. Went straight to the BA counter - sorry, cabin crew couldn't locate it, but may have been found by cleaners - please fill out a form and call back in a day or two. Sure enough they had found it and it was handed in to lost property - without iPod and designer sunglasses.

Walked off an Air France flight after arriving in Tokyo. Immediately realised I'd left my BMW Motorcycle Jacket & Pants hanging in the Business Class closet (was flying business, and don't ask me how you could forget something like that!!). Advised JAL staff (JAL were handling the AF flight) while passengers were still disembarking. I even watched them to see if anyone had "lifted" it but did not see anything. JAL advised that AF staff had checked the closet adjacent to my seat (where I'd hung it) but it was not there. Lodged the usual forms, never head another word. I hate to say this but its always been my belief that one of the crew helped themselves..... I was the 2nd or 3rd off the aircraft and the JAL staffer I spoke to was right at the end of the air bridge and I watched everyone come off that plane......:evil:

Left my passport (only legal photo ID) in my transfer car upon arrival at SYD

Put it this way, very glad I organised myself a private car that day instead of getting a taxi!!! Quick call and I had it 5 minutes later (and gave the driver $10 or $20 for his troubles)

Left my QF NB card in ADL in January. Pity, it was a good card . At least I have a shiny silver one now

Flying Cairns to Dubai via HK on Cathay Pacific. We had just bought a unit in Cairns the day before. I had a folder with the contracts, deed, and lots of other personal financial info (including account details and passwords, etc). I had been looking at the material on the HK to Dubai flight and must have left it in the seat pocket. We had a short time to get our Dubai to Doha flight (Qatar Airways). At the boarding gate there was a Cathay flight attendant waving a folder. I hadn't even noticed it missing. Was I ever impressed and thankful; Mrs MTAB was less than impressed with me. The attendant must have done some very quick and astute detective work and covered half the airport getting from the Cathay gate to the Qatar one.

I lose two things in hotel rooms, and two things only: blackberry charger and cufflinks. Tres annoyment!
