Hi guys,

Just a quick query;

I flew QF31 SYD-SIN yesterday afternoon, and upon arrival at SIN my checked luggage was nowhere to be found. So I went to lost and found, reported it, got SGD$100 cash from the L&F office. My stay in SIN is only a for transit as I am flying out to MLE in around 3hours time on SQ.

I prefer not to spend too much time on my holiday looking at fine prints of what QF can/can't do ... so what normally happens here? what can QF offer immediately? and in the worse case, what happens if my luggage never appears.

Just as an idea, I reported lost baggage around ~1145pm last night ... flying our 945am today, so really have no clothing to wear. As I posted on FB, I might have to just play "rudey nudey" whilst at the Maldives for a few days.

Thanks,

Alanslegal

I've always found QF to be very good at reuniting lost luggage with owners. Let them know your travel plans and where you'll be at what times \ days, and they will strive to get it to you (they will get it dropped off at your hotel \ home)...

QF offered $100 immediately?

If they lose your baggage they will be liable under either the Montreal Convention or the Warsaw Convention agreement, which give out a maximum amount based on SDR's (special drawing rights).

Otherwise call your insurance company.

They should deliver it to you in MLE (it will probably just be carried as freight on one of the SQ services) and then couriered to your hotel/resort. I've found Qantas to be very good at this.

A few years ago I was travelling JFK-LAX-BNE-SYD. On arrival in BNE my bag didn't show. Turns out they forgot to take it off QF108 and it went straight through to SYD. Just as I was stepping off my domestic leg in SYD, a courier called me saying he was at my house with the bag. Damn thing beat me home!

Also, when I was working in aircraft charter, we had a passenger who had arrived off a Qantas domestic flight and their bag didn't make it. This passenger was then on a charter to an island for a week. The bag arrived that evening and Qantas chartered a plane through us to deliver this bag to the passenger. Cost them an absolute fortune and the flight left with nothing but the passengers bag on it!

I dare say that you won't have any issues (provided, of course, they find it quickly).

It's Montreal (as Oz is a signatory) and it's XDR1000 max! (~AUD1550). If not found with 21 days it is deemed lost.

If one does claim though their travel insurance, the underwriter will assess the opportunity to obtain redress from the carrier after paying you out.

Ok thanks everyone for reading, QF has just found the lost bag at SYD. Its currently on an SQ service enroute to SIN, then connecting to the late night flight to MLE. I consider this almost resolved, well once the bag is in my possession then its all fine.

Yes QF is very good, now my bag is found and on its way.

QF offered $100 immediately?

Yes just to assist/tie me till my bags got here. I didn't ask for any money, it was just given.

And if you don't have any clothes, just buy some :)

Bought some tshirts/shorts at Giodarno at the airport using my SGD$100. Have some left, so I guess I made a profit :)

Anyway, this thread can be closed if necessary. Thanks all.
