My wife's on her way back from LHR tomorrow, and I had preselected 80A for her on the 380.

I've just logged into her account, and it looks like the seat selections for that flight (and her connection to CBR) are now missing. Couple of questions:

1. Is it likely to be still there, but just not showing up? I don't want to select another seat if the selection is still in the system somewhere.
2. Why would this happen? It was there until her departure for LHR last Sunday, but now appears to be gone?

Thanks

A CL may have taken it.
Have you called the QF service centre to enquire?

I didn't realise they could bump people form existing allocated seats!

I haven't called as the booking is in her name, but will get her to do so and find out what's going on.

Assuming you are talking about QF2 or QF10 for 17th April, both flights are showing 80A as allocated. Both are showing good availability in the premium cabins. Did you/she apply for an upgrade?

I have seen seat pre-allocations lost if there is an aircraft type change in the QF system. So if there was a "glitch" that had the aircraft type change even momentarily to say a 744 and back again to A380, then all allocations that do not map across between types can be lost.

A CL may have taken it.

A CL cannot "bump" someone from their selected seat. Only a QF employee with the right level of authorisation can make such changes and is unlikely to do so without good reason. And its unlikely to be done for a CL as they would be more likely to upgrade the CL to a higher cabin than bump someone else from an economy seat down the back.

Perhaps also check via on-line check-in and see what is offered now (assuming by "tomorrow" you mean a flight within the next 24 hours.

Another possibility is that she is about to get an opup.
unlikely if its departure ex LHR on 17th as both flights are showing plenty of availability in the Y cabin. But you never know what can happen.

That is what I thought. Even if there are seats in Y, they might upgrade you so you have a seat in another cabin but they haven't allocated it specifically.

Just ring and ask them.

Cheers guys.

The flight is actually on the 16th (London time)...

I've asked her to call to find out what's going on, so we'll see what happens.

There are many glitches in manage my booking and I seem to get all of them. The common cause of losing an allocated seat is change of aircraft.

I have lost count of the number of times I have had a seat allocated but it was not showing on Manage my booking for one reason or another. Most times just call customer care to find out what is happening.

This is not what I have been told by QF staff nor what has been reported anecdotally here. I don't remember who it was but someone mentioned that as a WP after preallocating the front row of dom Y at T80, it was then later removed - when the QF call centre was asked about it, they mentioned that a CL took their seat and then the poster suggested to op-up the CL into J and give them their Y seat back.

So technically a CL can take the seat by way of requesting QF staff to do so, however they cannot themselves bump someone else without staff assistance (ie my point still stands unless proven otherwise)

Don't forget that seat allocation cannot be guaranteed...

More than a few times I've chosen my seat online (I'm QFF Gold) but when I've checked in the seat booking has gone AWOL and I've been given another 'lesser' seat. I always assumed it was just a fault in the system but maybe I'm getting 'bumped' for somebody with higher status?

Well, my wife ended up calling, and when she checked she was told she was still assigned 80A, so all good... Except, when she turned up to the airport that had disappeared, and she was given another seat. Luckily it was a forward aisle seat, but would have been pretty pissed if she'd been given a bad seat instead (she's SG btw).

Did she OLCI? What time did she ring up (before or after T-24)? Did she ask why someone else took her preallocated seat? I'd be spewin McGregor if that happened to me..
