Lounge Access - 2 Hours Before

FWIW Qantas had such a 2 hour rule in PER ... and that was back in the 90's.

I can't imagine it would ever be enforced – I've spent 6 hours in the old PER lounge after coming back from SIN and that's definitely torture.

That said, VA and QF's lounges (and let's be honest, they're basically the same) are brilliant. They're not F lounges, so you do need to manage your expectations, but they serve their purpose very well.

I wouldn't have said this a few weeks ago, but having flown a bit of short-haul around Europe, all I want is to have the VA WP experience again. It's unbelievably comfortable compared to the coughpy experience you get here – either J or status.

Just remember – we have it so ​good.

I agree with you 100%. They're totally fine for a two hour stay. I'm mostly there in the morning where I have a shower, grab a nice coffee, have a bowl of fruit and read the newspaper. Great way to start the day. I'd imagine it not being the best place to have a meal at dinner though as it's mostly snacky style food on small plates. Spirits would be a nice addition and I can't imagine it costing VA much more.

Travelling overseas though, the domestic lounges are horrible, many don't even have wifi, most don't have showers, they're aged, small, food can be inedible (if there is any available). We have it really good in Australia but I do agree there would be some minor improvements that would go a long way.

Finished work early yesterday and got to BNE business lounge ~90 minutes early . Bored after 30 minutes and couldn't wait for flight to board.

Have a 6 hour connection in HKG on one of my upcoming trips. AA award. I am going to try and change to earlier flight.

I'm with you on that one! I'm finding myself more and more gravitating out into the terminal to people watch! It can actually be quite fun....all sorts from the joyful exuberance of people excited by a looming holiday to those equally entertaining types with unusual quirks. In a lounge, all you usually see is people just like me....bored and over lounges!

Sooner or later watching the clowns in the open zone of Australia's domestic airports will be non PC or not allowed.
Watching kids put thumb prints onto newly wiped glass irks me at airports, even if I am not the cleaner doing the wiping.
Looking at people is now a danger.
Them or their kids running amok in an airport.
What? The walkway is now your kids private runway???
What is it with African kids touching other people eh?
Felt a tapping at MEL int secure zone past immi earlier on today, ... looked and it was 2 African kids!

I don't see them as "clowns". When I say I like to "people watch", I actually do find people intriguing. Most are not clowns....just everyday people going about their business. An airport is great as the diversity is huge and mostly, I see normal people in a slightly abnormal setting (for most.....except us abnormal FFers ). As for kids coming up and touching you, that is a treat IMHO.......it shows the joy of children, uninhibited by pretences. They don't discriminate by gender, race, skin colour, age........they're just normal kids. It's a pity many adults don't act the same way.

Accidental bumping someone is one thing.
put it this way, people who bring what should be luggage hold hard sided bags into the cabin.
Just because its 5mm smaller than max allowed.
Then find its too heavy for them or they are too short statured to do it successfully.

Like others have said I think it only applies to the lounge pass. I have Plat status and even prior used many J reward flights and I usually get there 3-6 hours prior to my flight (not so much these days unless I'm in transit but back when it was still a novelty I did) not once have I ever been knocked back or even a hesitation to letting me in so early.

Never had it enforced on myself and I got out to the airport many hours before a flight as I had to meet my Dad at the airport as he was transiting to a different airport to where I was going...

I have never had an issue with spending more than 2 hours in a lounge. That said I rarely travel in peak times and the lounge usually has ample seating.

I can't see any reason to enforce this rule unless the lounge is packed.

I think we can fairly conclusively say that there's no real time limit on lounge use for status pax. I wouldn't abuse it (not sure how you could, but I'm sure it's possible), however I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it. Sometimes you genuinely need to spend a half day in there and that's why you get access – to make your travelling life more comfortable.

OT: For me, it's been another day in Europe, another day I miss having home status. You feel like such a second class citizen when you're using a foreign airline's status to access lounges, lines and boarding.

It's sad, but VA really feels like home.

(Which, incidentally, is where I'll be in a couple of days...)
