Just paid my first $55 per person lounge pass - after a glitch in the online system prevented my purchase at $30 yesterday. Now that Priority Pass doesn't get me into the lounge - it's Goodbye Virgin Australia and thank you Centurion for my complimentary QANTAS Pub.

Having only been in one of their new lounges… I’d think an annual The Lounge membership wouldn’t be a bad idea ;)

I definitely concur, I'd rather pay to be in Virgin's new lounges than get Qantas' QP's for free.

There's definitely a few AFF'ers who are glad they took up the deal I had during July which gave super-cheap Lounge membership...always good to be able to help a fellow AFF'er.

This is the first time I have ever had to pay, with a $25 per person penalty due to their system being unavailable yesterday.

I'm afraid I am attracted to the complimentary benefits rather than paid. The change does revalue the Centurion Amex. (devalue?)

I double concur. As a paid up Lounge member, I've found it to definitely pay it's way. If you regularly need (or like) to guest people in (which I usually don't), it'd be an absolute bargain!

Actually I think I have been overcharged

If you are not a member of the Virgin Australia lounge, and have a same day onward flight journey with Virgin Australia, subject to space availability, you can purchase Casual entry for $35 (inc. GST) until 31 July 2011 or $65 (inc. GST) from 1 August 2011 from the lounge reception, and access the lounge a maximum of two hours prior to your flight's scheduled departure time.
Velocity members can pre-purchase Single entry passes at a discounted rate of $30 (inc. GST) until 31 July 2011 or $55 (inc. GST) from 1 August 2011 online.

"

They may have switched their system over a little early.

Email thelounge at virginaustralia dot com with the details, and the team can investigate.

Sounds a little exhorbitant but did you really need to be in the lounge?

I know this may sound silly but there is no way I would have given them $55 for a lounge pass. I wouldn't even pay $30 but that is me.

Saw a middle aged/elderly lady earlier looking through her bag just outside the Qantas lounges in Brisbane. Then I saw here handing over a Qantas complimentary pass to the lounge. If I had known what she was doing I would have gladly guested her into the business lounge and she could have save the complimentary guess pass. It is such a waste to use these passes in a domestic.

Also thought PP was valid till 31-Jul.
Planning on using tomorrow in MEL, or can always use the WP card instead!

I thought it was 31July as well. Hope to use Sydney one in T2 on Sunday.

It all changes Monday, Sydney had a couple of PP slips processed this afternoon when I rocked up.

Hmm, might have to buy a pass or two over the weekend....have an Amex flight to take somewhere along the way....

Given that they only serve you one beer at a time, perhaps you could offer to pay the $55 incrementally too?

eg $10 when you have a beer, another $10 when you grab some food, $10 when you use the toilet, etc.

Went to Virgin lounge today but discovered I'd left the PP card @ home. But the good person at the counter saw the QF gold card and told me I could use lounge because of the promotion during August where QF Gold and Platinum cardholders and a guest can get to get in. So, no swiping of card, no charge to PP, no paying for guest. Lounge looked much busier than at other times I've been in. Noticed the cinema is gone. So have the juices...just the post-mix now.

...
I'm arriving from an overnight flight from HK Virgin Atlantic and waiting for connecting flight to Melbourne. Otherwise, as you say hardly worth it. PP meant I never had to pay before. I am paying the price for booking well in advance - before these changes were announced.

$110 went through the AMX, and yes I have emailed the lounge.
