I was wondering if anyone with lowly PS status (such as myself) has found out about an international upgrade coming through more than 24 hours in advance under the new system, or if QF makes PS members wait until 24 hours ahead as a matter of policy?

(I ask because I have a flight next week with Mrs Adelaide_Matthew, also a PS, but we're on different PNRs - thus, there is a risk one upgrade might come through and another not. If we found this out more than 24 hours in advance, we could cancel the successful upgrade and only lose the 5000 point fee (we'd prefer to sit together); but if they make us wait until 24 hours, then we lose the ability to cancel without losing all the points.)

can't answer about the upgrade question, but a quick phonecall to qf will probably get you an answer. They may also be able to link the two bookings together so you automatically get allocated seats next to each other.

This is what I would do - linking the bookings over the phone will make it easier, and will also usually avoid the situation where only one booking will upgrade.

I don't know if linking the bookings makes the upgrade process together - it says on the website that separate bookings are not processed together and whilst linking bookings may result in seats being assigned together (if you haven't done so yourself online) I'm not sure it assists with upgrade requests. I'd check this one carefully before relying on it.

On the phone, QF have stuck to the written conditions - if you're on different bookings, you might not get both and there's nothing they can do. I'll update if that answer changes.

Well, we are two happy PSs - our upgrades Y-J came through about 30 hours ahead (no text message though).

We weren't seated together, but I managed to shift so we are now.

The flight was looking pretty open in J - showing J9 C9 D9 I9 before, now it's showing J4, C4, D4, I4. (The seat map, however, is only showing two empty seats - perhaps a couple of platinum shadows are there: I was initially put in 13J upstairs, but moved and it isn't showing available any more.)

I have linked separate bookings (me WP, others all NB) and gotten op-ups for everyone linked - 4 of us!

Op-ups are processed manually from my understanding, and they would have been able to see the bookings were linked. In the case of points upgrades, they are processed by the system and linking bookings does not makes a difference, as a phone call to QF confirmed above.
