Long time reader of this forum, first time poster...

Anyway, so myself and my partner decided we would like to go to Europe in January 2013. Quite a long time away I would have thought?

Trying to book through the qantas website and all of the sale fares involve a BA flight either on our way to or from LHR.

When we try to select qantas all the way, they are asking for $1000 more per person than ANY other airline.

I can always justify paying qantas a little extra for their service, but not 50% more.
This decision to reduce LHR services is a joke! So, after 8 years supporting the roo on ALL of my international flights out of Australia I can go on another oneworld carrier and do one of the legs in BUSINESS class for the same price.

Sometimes the thought process in qantas is brilliant, sometimes it bewilders me beyond belief.

Best of luck rebuilding when you drive your customers away up to 6 months before they wish to fly with you.

Anyway, enough of my rant - I don't whige often but sometimes they just don't have the right thought process when making decisions like this. Cutting service doesn't always make you more profitable.

They obviously believe that they can sell the seats at that price. January would be a fairly peak time given Europeans flying back after wintering in Oz and NSW civil servants shutting down in Jan to use there excess leave provisions..

but they have the extra letters 'NS' on the planes now. they have a new social media campaign telling us they are the 'Spirit of Australians' ...

log onto qantas/you and have a look. you need to get more engaged with them, then you will see.

Like they believed they would make a lot of money from Qantas International.

Or platinum one would be an amazing loyalty scheme.

join AAdvantage and fly through the USA to Europe, and also purchase AA miles when they are on discount or bonus, then you will really see that QF is a poor cousin to AA.

OR fly BA as AAdvantage member and get all the miles, instead of flying BA as QF ff and perhaps only get 25% of the miles.

Even perhaps sign up for the AA platinum challenge and fly through the USA to Europe with AA flight number, become AA platinum and get double miles with AA or BA flight numbers.

In other words, explore all the possibilities now, rather than later.

QF miles SYD-LHR-LED 84,000 and 561 dollars taxes, whereas AA miles 45,000 and 160 dollars taxes for EXACTLY the same thing - see what I mean.

I didnt say that they were right. We don't see empty planes so someone is buying the tickets at that price - it is just costing more to run the route than they are earning - if you were management at QFi you might argue that prices could/should go up...
