In my humble opinion, Qantas's loyalty bonus was a little underwhelming. It pops up every 500 SC earned on the metal, and I think bonus or double status credits don't count toward achieving the goal.

I am always uncertain or even confused about what is the best option. And what are the long-term goals here, if any, towards earning lifetime Status? Marki the perplexed Loyal bonus provocateur of sorts.

Correct, it doesn't anymore. Changed around 2017.

I am always uncertain or even confused about what is the best option.

That really depends whether one needs the 50SC for current year status attain/retain, or is chasing lifetime status.

If the answer to both is no, the 8000 points is the better choice.

The loyalty bonus means e.g. platinum really requires 1300 SCs rather than 1400 SCs. If chasing status the SCs are definitely the better option. Now that I'm lifetime gold and not flying that much I picked the points for the first time this year (ended my year with ~780 SCs so another 50 would have made no difference).

I was in a similar boat and equally confused until your question. I just ticked over to WP and I have virtually no chance of getting to P1.
Thanks to @sudoer you have pretty much helped my decision. I'm currently nowhere near any Life Time status since I'm relatively new to all of this so 8000 points is a big percentage for me

If you’re lucky and a LB or GT triggers 3mths out from the end of your membership year you should get at least get 3mths to decide. ie points or SCs in the current or next membership year. The points are points but having the option to take the SCs or defer to the next member year can have advantages.

I’d like QF to introduce the option of SC at 2500.
Going by the ratios above it would be around 300 SC / 50K points/ Gift Gold.

That's my current problem I'm 8 months short of my renewal but I did save last years GT and will be doing so again ie make sure I tick the last leaf off a month before. I've weighing up should I try and get the extra SC I need for the next LB as well

They do offer gold to gift around that level.
Personally, despite t&c the 50 sc bonus has added to lifetime credits and p1 non Qantas flown credits too
Edit: /s realised. Should have looked at the poster

It’s in the T&Cs that it adds to P1 up until 31st December this year.
After that it will just be LT tally, which I’m ok with as I always take the SCs long after I have requalified for P1 anyway.

It has been every year. Just not at the beginning. I will grab another 50 before Dec 31 in case

Oh - defer to the next member year meaning compounding of SC for the next year?

Oh complicated but yes makes sense

Yep been there done that. Well placed Double SC promos do help in reaching P1 status.

I always go for SC to move as quickly as I can towards Lifetime Status.

50 SC may not sound like a lot. But loyalty bonuses and the SC from Green Tier do add up over time.

Hmmm so my choices are 50 SC place now before the end of the membership year. This will count towards lifetime platinum count in about another 19050 SC.

My membership activity this year has been less than I would like.

Sitting about around 1413 SC which another 50 SC could help me reaching Platinum one.

The other choice is adding 50 SC in the next membership year. That choice is available till the end of March).

Or 8000 Points instead.

50SC seems like the better choice this membership year as not having reached the requisite level it may help. I have a few more flights booked this year to Europe and the United Sates in Double SC class one in Business the other in flex economy hmm 🤨 plus a flex class in Economy coming up from Europe where I am enjoying jet lag in a hotel.
