LST to MEL dearer than LST to SYD via Melbourne - Very Odd!!

Have been looking at booking Launceston to Melbourne departing on 3 May at 6am, is currently $123.50 on a Saver Fare.
However, it is possible to book Launceston to Sydney via Melbourne with the same LST to MEL flight at 6am for $119.50.
I can't make any sense out of this at all!

Wondering whether I'm better to wait and see if the LST to MEL flight price reduces over the next day or so?

If time is on your side, maybe even consider a return flight SYD-MEL and capitalise on the SC front.



