There are plenty of folk out there that purchased Qantas Club membership for life. There are now a bunch of people with LTG status. Do you think they are similar. Does LTG really equate to Llifetime Qantas Club Membership?

LQP gives lifetime access to the QP does LTG guarantee this?

...and what happens to the remainder of QP membership when one reaches LTG?

With all the recent NGCI changes, I believe they're close enough on the domestic side of things.

LTG gives complimentary standard seat selection on international flights; LTQP does not.

I agree that it does now. My concern is that LQP membership is exactly that. I do wonder if QF may choose to remove QP access from LTG members? (I have no idea whether this might happen but LQP seems a bit more permanent.

Just as QF could remove QP access from LTG, they could also close down the QP or replace it with another type of lounge that’s not a QP :p

Yep valid point!

....but what about the QP membership I have paid for and is still there?

That's one thing that I doubt will ever happen - by far the biggest majority of those who get to that 14K TC/SP tally will have actually flown an immense amount on Qantas, given Qantas a significant amount of revenue though premium travel or some combination of both.

I really hope so, and I think QF will honour that. I have spent 12 years of my life flying an awful lot with QF.

If they did, there's a 100% chance WW3 will break out.

I would argue LTG is more permanent as it least has the backing of the oneworld rules (noting that AA does however make exceptions for its own holders).

Assuming OneWorld sticks around, or that Qantas remains a member. I guess LTG does give you a lifetime middle tier, assuming Qantas doesn’t add another 5 tiers in the future. Basically, nothing is assured.

LTG will naturally give lounge access across the OW network (and any other OWS benefits), whereas LTQP only gives lounge access for QF, AA, BA (all subject to change of course).

As for remainder of QP membership, from what's been reported from some members, kiss that good bye when you reach LTG (not that I would be complaining too much if reaching LTG)!

LTG is the goal for me as I want the OW benefits. Also the 75% status bonus on QF looks like a better deal then LQP

how much did life time QP cost to buy anyway?

I have heard amounts in the $4000ish.

I think LTG is significantly superior to LTQP:

Higher status earning
Access OW lounges not just QP/BA/AA
Biz class check in
Better seating allocations
Increased baggage allowances
Request award seats to be released

That's what I fully expect to happen to me once (if) I make LTG in around about 2,000 odd SCs. I've had one month left on the first year of my QP membership since around 2003, and would expect I can kiss that goodbye. Presumably I'd still be referred to as Qantas Club Gold at that stage!:?:

Agreed. And yep, LTQP cost ~4K when they stopped offering it around 3 or 4 years ago.

I guess the potential exists for either of LTQP or LTG to morph into something more or less valuable depending on any number of factors in the future. But for now I think it is as you say.

At the moment there is no doubt that the LTG benefits are greater. I think my concern is that LTG will be diluted as more and more members attain that level. So LTG in, say, five years might not include lounge access or J check in. I think that LTQP in five years will allow lounge access because that is essentially what has been purchased.
