Ok I haven't done one of these ever, so here goes. I broke with my one world traditions for the first time in a long time, mainly because the LH flight was cheaper and i'd do the right thing by the company I work for, but also because I wanted to test out the newish 747-800. After a long 747 hiatus, in the past few months I've take a couple of trips on the bird (MEL-LAX/QF + HKG - ICN on a really old CX 747 as a replacement aircraft) and realised it's one of my favourite aircrafts.

Its my first time on Lufthansa, I don't know if I missed the main lounge in Frankfurt, I went straight to the lounge at the Gate, at the time I didn't know that the lounge was only for my gate. The lounge was nothing to write home about, I got no status with Star Alliance so I couldn't get into the Senators lounge which was reserved *A gold and first class.
Boarding was from the Gate which was cool, i've never had that anywhere in Europe, I was on the upper deck which was only half full, so I had no-one next to me.
The aircraft is a bit more quieter that the 400 and besides everything looking a bit sharper and newer there was not much difference, except the toilet was all automated, you didn't need to put the seat down after you are done as when you flush the whole thing automatically closes, prior to the actual flush.
The seat was ok, fully flat bed, but a bit squishy on your feet when in the flat bed, also there is really not much privacy, luckily there was nobody next to me, the service was fine, not up to the standard of EK or CX but good for a European carrier.
It was a night flight and super smooth, no seat belt sign at all during a 13.5hr flight, very rare for me of late, I seem to be going through a lot of rough air so it was a nice change.
Ive attached some pic so enjoy
