Evening AFFers!

Normally people ask the reverse question will my bags be checked through during transit, and the answer is usually 'yes'.

My question is I have an extended transit in Doha flying QR, DXB-DOH-DEL on the one PNR, transit in DOH is around 20 hours, will I be allowed to only check my luggage to DOH instead of the final destination? I know it sounds trivial, but I've always transited in the past with carryon and less than 12 hours, though now we have an infant and need the infants supplies for the 20 hours transit.

The Qatar FAQ's only mention that your luggage will be checked through during transit.

Thanks in advance!

I would think that you should be able to ask at checkin to only have the baggage checked to DOH. Have a look at the tag they put on the bag to make sure.

Thanks, this is what I am hoping will happen, and normally wouldn't worry if it didn't go to plan but being our first trip with the baby we're a little paranoid

I'll make sure to pack extra nappies in carry-on in case!

yes - you can ask them to short check either one or all your bags.

You may find it easier to put all your requirements for the stopover into just one bag, and get that one tagged for DOH. The others can be checked through to the final destination.

If questioned, just explain you have essential items you will need during the stopover.

Just an update QR would NOT allow me to only check bags through to DOH from DXB as apparently their policy is that you have to be greater than 24hours stop for them to allow your bags to be checked to the stopover destination. They wouldn't even allow the stroller to be checked to DOH!
So had to pack as much as I could in to our backpacks and carry the baby in our arms for the whole time.

Anyway the new QR Al Safwa F lounge and the W Doha with a suite more than made up for it. ;)

So I googled this - apparently for most paid QR fares, there is a condition that bags cannot be retrieved during the transit at DOH. If you request bags at DOH it will trigger a fare reprice.

This rule doesn't apply to non-QR issued awards, or to other carrier fares which include travel on QR: No short-checking luggage in DOH layover - FlyerTalk Forums

Yes, this is applicable to all QR published fares.

Code:

FLIGHTS IS LESS THAN 24 HOURS PLEASE NOTE THAT
THE BAGS WILL ALWAYS BE CHECKED THROUGH TO THE
          FINAL DESTINATION.THE PASSENGERS SHOULD CARRY
EVERYTHING THEY NEED IN DOHA IN A HAND BAG.
          -----------------------------------------------
IN CASE THE PASSENGER NEEDS THE BAGS IN DOHA
TWO SEPARATE TICKETS NEED TO BE BOUGHT.
