We flew SYD-LHR-PISA leaving on June 28th on QF1 returning on July 26th in Y. Thanks to all the info here, I did a status run in March and hit gold. Kept checking for row 40 and scored two seats on the way over which was fantastic. The plane wasn't full.

Did the 80 hours out and again scored 40F&G from LHR-HKK on QF30, another 15 hours later scored 40G & 40D on QF128 so happy campers. Arrived at Pisa and found we had been moved to Y+ 36J&K for the QF30 flight. Had a great sleep. In HKK went immediately to service disk as our bags had been only booked through to HKK (mistake be BA in Pisa but so be it.). QF rep in HKK was lovely told us not to worry about bags they will take care them. Printed out new boarding passes Y+ 35J&K. Very very happy campers. Hubby high fiving my decision to spend 40k points on the status run.

Nice time in QP wander down to gate. Boarding passes are reprinted and we are upgraded again to J 23J&K. We are spoiled for life.

Now my question is - how do replicate this going forward as we run a cooking school in Tuscany twice a year? If we hadn't moved to row 40 (from row 70), would we have been upgraded? Both QF30 and QF128 were full.

Congratulations on the upgrades and the nice experince. But sadly, there is little you can do to ensure its replicated next year, except for a few basic things:

  • Retain your status as that is a key component to operational upgrades
  • Travel at times when the flghts are likely to be over-sold in the economy cabin and under-sold in the premium cabins (e.g. school holidays)
  • Pray

I can't believe how lucky you were :!: :D congratulations.

Unfortunately there is no confirmed method you can use to ensure this will happen again. I always pray but am prepared to sit where I am sitting, makes the blow less hard if you are stuck at the back of the bus...
