Hi Guys,

I booked a few domestic red e deals, I understand name changes aren't permitted and gave up after waiting on phone for 2 hours to ask a couple of questions.

So the story is booked a couple flights with the Mrs Maiden name as we aren't married....yet so her FF # etc are all in Maiden name until next month then obviously that will all change. She had intention of changing passport over as going on a cruise next year so the domesitc tickets I wasn't too worried about as she could just keep a spare drivers licenece in the maiden name but we now have to make a quick dash to NZ after the cruise which sort of complicates things.

So passport would be in married name and ticket in maiden name. Gotta cancel the domestic tickets, then use the credit for flights back to Aussie but take it even after rebooking using the voucher I won't be able to change the name.

Couple of questions for anyone in the know:

By changing her FF name will it change the name on the system therefore ticket or does the system only recognise the number not the name?

Anyone know the go if we cant change name, guess she can carry 2 Id's plus marraige cert.

Always somethiing to make life interesting!

Changing in Frequent Flyer won't make changes to tickets.

30 seconds of googling suggests to me that they will need to cancel & re-issue the tickets to change the name, but they might waive the fees in doing so.
so I would suggest staying on hold for another two hours :-)

2 hr wait on the Gold line ? I would hang up and try again

As lathiat mentioned changing the name in the FF profile will not update any bookings.

How long has the passport got ? if covers future travel period .. easier to just keep as is .... if not you will have to wait to you get married and send in the new passport + marriage cert and they will reissue in the new name ... being gold they may waive any fee , but there could be a service fee involved

It generally isn't necessary to cancel and rebook - you should be able to provide the marriage certificate and they will make the change.

My wife actually just waited until such time as her Passport needed to be renewed before she changed her name on that. However, she did change over her Drivers license relatively quickly.
All that meant was that if we traveled overseas, we booked her flights under maiden name, and domestically her flights were under married name, so essentially had the option to choose.
IMO I'd just hold off doing all the changes of Passports/licenses until you had a gap in your travel plans. From what I understand, she can still actually do the name change if she wants, but then just hold off changing passports/licenses until a time that suits.

As for what changing the name on the FF account would do, not sure sorry.

Why rush to change the name in your passport?
Like opusman said above you can do it when the existing one expires or when you return from your overseas trip.
If you are simply changing your name in the passport due to marriage, a new passport is free provided the existing passport has at least 2 years validity. You simply have to fill in a new application (Form PC1), provide photos no more than 6 months old and a marriage certificate issued by BDM. Other ID such as D/L and Medicare card need not be in the married name.
Just be aware that if you are replacing a passport it will have the same expiry date as the existing passport, you will not get a 10 year one free. Hope this helps.

From Mrs Blackcloud's experience.
The FF Name and Number must match what is on the ticket or it will not credit. You will need to submit a manual claim with evidence of the name change including photo id under both names.

Thanks guys, might just defer name change in the passport and change the name on the cruise as that seems to be easier than trying to get Qantas to do a name change.

Cheers :)
