Maintain Velocity Plat - are SC over the required 800 wasted??

I am on track to maintain velocity platinum (800SC) within the my review year (November) however I am unlikely to earn enough SCs to gift companion gold. My question is, are SCs earned above the 800 during this review year (prior to my review date) just wasted, or will they count towards maintaining platinum for the next review period?

Possible waste.

Can't get extra 500 to gift Gold then not much use.

Then again flying another carrier could well be a waste too, unless your on the loooong journey to Qantas lifetime status.

Can use the velocity platinum benefits on the extra SC flights.

I always do something similar , after I have the required SCs or maintaining platinum will use the extra SCs to gift SG to my wife. Has been working okay for me.

Welcome to AFF @bso .

i’m in the same boat. Got a few Virgin flights coming up and I realised the other day that all the SC earned will be wasted. No one else in the family flies. No point changing these flights to Qantas either as I’m already qualified platinum on them too. Such dilemmas!

Is there a black market for buying/selling excess Velocity status credits as a pooled family member? I’m not aware of one, yet. Presents quite a few risks.

But I’m sure you might have some takers at the right price though, Roo 😉.

The nearby threads about Velocity accounts being locked with no notice might be worth reading up on. ❗
