Making an excuse to go on an indirect routing

Hi all,

Advice needed:

I am based in BNE and want to fly BNE-SYD-AUH to try out the EY's Apartment product rather than fly direct. No brainer really.

Only issue is that I feel awkward asking the agent specifically for the flight and I have read that I could be slugged with an intra AU Jcl redemption because I am requesting an indirect routing (noting that I am following all the other rules, eg. MPM, <24 hour connection etc).

Am I being too sensitive and should just ask for QF XYZ followed by EY ABC or do I need to contrive an excuse?

Thanks

100% promise they won't care. 110% promise if you are buying a residence fare from them!!

Say I want this flight via this port and you're good to go.

Little tip is that you want to be on what is called a 'through fare' as in you buy your ticket from BNE to AUH but you will be routed BNE - SYD - AUH. This means you'll be on one ticket, one PNR, your connection is guaranteed but you'll also save on GST on the BNE-SYD sector. You will be on VA metal but a EY Flight number.

I have found that it is no more expensive often to fly indirect. I had to go to mel for work and flew MEL-AUH -LHR and it was cheaper for the GF to be on a through fare BNE-MEL-AUH-LHR effectively picking me up on the way than it was to go from bne to AUH and us meet in AUH.

Don't be precious about it, just ask for what you want.

If the TA is unsure, cut them loose and I'll hook you up with a decent one hahaha

Shouldn't be any fare issues at all. In fact, it'll quote normally with VA from BNE to SYD, then EY from SYD to AUH.

When tried to book LHR-AUH-SYD-BNE the AA agent tried to convince me to take the direct AUH-BNE flight because (in her own words): EY already fly F to BNE so what's the point going via SYD?! Hmmm... Long story short I was told the extra SYD-BNE leg on QF will cost me extra miles so I politely declined and asked to end my journey in SYD.

Sorry to clarify - this is for an aamile redemption rather than an outright purchase with cash.

You shouldn't need an excuse to travel this itinerary. If necessary simple state that you are travelling with other passengers who will board the plane in Sydney. Most of the AAdvantage staff are very helpful but it is preferable to ring the US Number.

I've seen much more complicated itineraries! You should have no issues.
