Hi all, sorry if this has been answered before (couldn't find it on search). I have earned about 1600 status credits since November last year (i.e. within a 12 month period) but unfortunately a lot of credits expired this June before I hit the 1400 mark. I have since made enough flights to get over 1400. How strict is Qantas in enforcing this? Will they give Platinum to me anyway if i ask given i have flown a lot with them and earned enough credits within the last 12 months?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Qantas are not known for their generosity in this area. However an email asking can never hurt.

Extremely unlikely. You may have had enough the previous year to make Gold, and the credits you have now will count towards renewing Gold, or making Plat.

You're in no different situation to anyone else who made Gold the previous year and fell short of making Plat.

I would doubt v much that they would. Unlike some schemes, Qantas doesn't operate a rolling year scheme so you pretty much need to get the SCs within the membership year

Dave

Hi,

Highly unlikely as this happened to me twice and neither time was I granted Plat.

i tend to agree with the replies. I am always glad when I manage to retain WP within the first 6 months of my qualifying period. The last 3 years I have tried to get mrs tas to PG but failed by 10 points last year. even though i qualified her the previous year then dropped her back to Silver but after a nice email from me they granted her a 12 month comp QC access which I am very grateful. I wish you luck in that letter.

Thanks all for the responses - seems the like concensus is dont bother! :)

Oh well there is always this year :)

That is a lot of flying but it is unfortunate that it overlapped your reassessment date.

QF is unlikely to hand out Platinum status that easily but it does not hurt to ask. It may be worth an email and the worst they could say to you is no....

Always worth an email.

The way I look at it, you need to make it worth their while. So if for instance you also hold status and fly regularly with another airline, point out that holding WP and having access to F lounges would result in more business going their way.

In 2005 I had my platinum extended with virtually no status credits and without asking - they did it approx 3 months before the expiration...and in 2006 I did ask for a one year extension and got it...but they did warn me this would never be done again...

Has this happened to any others as well - ie. getting plat extended one more year without asking?

Yes it has been reported on AFF a number of times. One of them a good friend of mine got comped Platinum status 2 years straight without the required amount of travel.

Yes, happened to me in a year of almost no flying.

Extension of status when ,missing is not that rare, but I do not know of anyone being elevated in status without the requisite points. almost anything is possible, but this is not something I would put even a $1 bet on

Dave,

I know of people who organise high end travel, one in particular for the largest business in town and they seem to get on a list and stay in hock with mobs such as QANTAS and high end hotel chains. Its not only a case of who you know - but how they know you!

I used to work for a CL guy - and the generosity flowed from the airlines - because he directed many millions of bucks their way. If you are within his sphere of influence, the same may happen. You just dont know where you are on the pecking order.

cheers SPRUCE

CL is a different matter altogether. A CL member cannot have their FF status upgraded since it includes Platinum FF status. Its common for a CL member to have their Platinum FF status maintained even if they do not requalify via the 1200 SC earning threshold. And its been commonly reported that regular FF members have had their current status maintained without attaining the published threshold (I am one who has personal experience of this).

The discussion is about people being bumped up to the next highest FF status level when they are short of the published threshold and I concur with Dave's comment and note that I have never heard of it happening.

So are you suggesting these people you know have had their regular FF status (not CL membership) bumped to a higher status level without reaching the published threshold?

I have not heard of anyone being bumped up to Gold or Platinum status without the necessary SCs.

Flashware reported in another thread that he was bumped up to Silver without the necessary SCs.

Yes, I could imagine they may do it to Silver, but unlikely to Gold or Platinum as you suggest.
