Malaysia Airlines have announced direct flights from Melbourne to Jakarta, Indonesia beginning 16 September. Fares are on sale now from $854 return (was $750 yesterday) including tax. Funnily enough, these flights don’t stop by Kuala Lumpur, which is rare as it’s Malaysia Airlines and all…

Book via Malaysia Airlines' website.

Cheers!

This flight will depart Melbourne at 0001am and will arrive in Jakarta at 0400am, departing Jakarta at 0500am and arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 0800am.

Sounds like a pleasant journey

I think the flight goes KUL-JKT-MEL AND vv

Not sure if it replaces one of the non stop flights though

TravelWeekly said that this is a direct flight... Completely agree that the departure times are pretty unreasonable (unless you're an insomniac)!

This new flight will ad to Garuda's new MEL-CDK services to six flights a week!

MH new MEL TimeTable

MH148- 15:00 MEL > KUL
MH146- 00:01 MEL > CGK > KUL
MH128- 00:15 MEL > KUL

All flights operated by B777-200, MH148 & MH128 daily, MH146 x3 weekly

It looks like we will see 2 MH 777's on the ground at MEL, very surprising and the only city in OZ MH has a 2nd destination to!

They used to do a PER-KCH flight once upon a time.

You sure about this? I noticed that on days that MH146 operates, MH128 has no seats available for sale, perhaps the timetable for 128 needs to be updated?

I guess though it's quite sensible not to take on QF on the SYD-CGK route.

yeah, soorox, check the schedules a bit more closely. MH128 has been ZERO'ed out on reservations systems on the days that the new service via cgk is operating. the flight will not operate on those days, so it will still only be the one midnight flight for MH ex-mel

MH have released plenty of their difficult to find L class seats on these new services. For those willing to have that ungodly transit in CGK, there's great deals to SE/N.Asia for sale until 31 Jul.

Seem to have also added more D (discount J) seats also, however I'm guessing most of those at the front of the plane will change to a non-stop service where possible.

Prices in biz don't seem to be that good. At $A2719 it is almost $1000 more than on Garuda.

For Velocity Points earners, I guess it gives another option to DXB by connecting with the twice daily Emirates flights out of CGK. (I haven't actually checked if the connection times are good)
