I am flying in Malaysia Airlines Business Class from Brisbane (leaves 23:20) to Kuala Lumpur (arrives 05:50 the next morning). I am then connecting onto a flight to coughet that leaves at 09:30 but I will be travelling in economy. I have no status but would I be able to access the business class lounge in KL if I had just come off a business class flight but connecting onto an economy flight? Thanks.

I doubt you will get access to the domestic, you could try the international and risk the luggage.

Unless you have the right status or are flying in business then you don't have any entitlement to use the lounge, sorry.

If you flight to coughet is on MH then you WILL get access to the international Golden Lounges at KUL.

Lounge access - oneworld

...
  • Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
    • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
    • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
    • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

Baggage won't be an issue then so lounge access at either will be fine, for some reason I was thinking Penang.

I am slightly confused.

Those Oneworld rules state same day connection or before 6:00am the next day entitles you to lounge access.

The OP departs 23:20 arrives 05:50am and departs at 09:30am. The connection is obviously not before 06:00am. Or is it as arrival time is before 6:00am?

I wouldn't want to be arguing access rules with lounge staff with that printout.

You are reading too much into it. It has nothing to do with the departure time of the incoming flight, only the day of scheduled arrival.

"First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul ... and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa)".

There are two way for access to be obtained:

  1. If one flight is scheduled to arrive into your connecting airport on a particular day and your connection flight departs that same day then lounge access is available as it is "connecting on the same day of travel".
  2. If one flight is scheduled to arrive into your connecting airport on a particular day and your connection flight departs the next day before 6am then lounge access is available as it is connecting "before 6am the following day".

Either need to be true for lounge access on this basis, not both.

To put it another way -"if your connection's scheduled departure is before 6am the day after your scheduled arrival then such lounge access is available".

As the OP's connection is the same day of travel (5:50am to 9:30am), the 6am question is irrelevant.

Got it. Reading into it way too much.

A question for someone familiar with F lounge in KUL. I am QF Plat, but because of better value will be crediting points to AA for flights ( in J class but don't think this matters in relation to my question) So my boarding pass will show AA FF no. but will they still let me in the F lounge if I have my QF plat card?

They will determine eligibility by what's on your boarding pass.

Not necessarily. I've often had my MH number (gold) on my boarding pass but flashed my QF plat card and been directed into the F lounge in KUL.
