Not surprisingly but also disappointing that MH couldn't make BNE work over the years.

It also not long after D7 also stated their interest in returning to Queensland (Gold Coast) to KUL in 2023.

MH can make ADL work better than BNE?? Says a lot about BNE as a destination, especially when I keep hearing/reading about the QLD govt subsidies to try and bring airlines there!
I wonder why BNE struggles to attract international visitors?

When our so called Sydney based national airline refuses to even acknowledge that ADL exists then yes there is a definite market for MH in ADL.
MH is our preference when coming direct back home, yes the aircraft are older and could do with a refurb but the seats are much more comfortable for sleeping than SQ IMO and they offer a pretty good service.

Etihad had the same issue with BNE. I do find it strange that these big players with huge connecting networks can’t Brisbane work.

We have award flights return on MH next May so good to hear. Flights out of Adelaide are usually full. Just need that International club lounge to open.

I read somewhere else that the Plaza Premium Lounge in ADL is opening this December

In addition to what other's have suggested, there are low-cost carrier options (such as Malindo and Scoot) between Malaysia and SE Queensland that impact competition in the Qld market.

We hardly ever depart from ADL but prefer to arrive direct into ADL. We have flown with MH many times usually award flights in J and have one coming up in a weeks time. Can definitely notice the age of the aircraft, it just doesn’t feel as modern as others but I find the seats very comfortable and being a overnight flight what better way to come home than a serving of satays before drifting off to sleep 🤣
I always get a decent sleep and much more comfortable than SQ and if you score a throne seat than even better. The MH Golden Lounge First class at KUL is great too and still reckon they served me one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. First time back in KL since Covid so will let you know how it goes

D7 has also flagged interest in returning to the OOL-KUL route from February 2023, so there's that.

It also opens the door for OD to try BNE-KUL with the 737Max as well if the business case stacks up for them. OD already plans to operate MEL-KUL non-stop with the Max.

D7 returning to OOL - Source: Will this low-cost carrier's return to Australia push airfare prices down?

1K,4K and 6K are single seats on the right.
I try and grab 4K if possible. It has more shelf and workspace space and feels a touch more private but the drawback for some of the footwell is smaller in lie down mode. I’m not tall so it doesn’t bother me but I know some who find it more uncomfortable
Wasn’t available for this upcoming flight so I’m in 7A

Flew KUL-ADL Nov 5th - the chicken satays were room temperature, the beef felt like they came straight from the fridge. The sauce was very good though. The plane was old, the fitout was old but OK, seat/bed comfortable, the doona very good, the service so-so, the positioning of the controls annoying, my elbow kept hitting the seat control and moving seat when supposed to be upright.

They've heard about her reputation!

It doesn't look like BNE-KUL were one of the subsidised routes.

My theory is they (re-)introduced the route before the subsidies came and weren't eligible for the funding because they were already flying:
- Service resumed January 2022 (Malaysia Airlines Cuts Brisbane From Network)
- AAIF announced February 2022 (Attracting Aviation Investment Fund)

Maybe they're learning from our credit card forum and churning (cancelling and re-applying as a new customer) to get the sign-on bonus (AAIF funding)? Wonder if the AAIF exclusion period is 18 months like our credit cards 🤣

Bugger have an award flight in May. Waiting for it to be cancelled but I suspect I should just try and work something else out as I doubt MH will work with QF on alternative options

EY had a shrinking network over the years when they were cleaning up Hogan's mess, by the time EY canned BNE their network wasn't what it once was.

In addition, EY was struggling with yields on their PER services, as there was the planned (but never started) VA A330 replacement before EY decided to pull PER entirely as well.

The award might be a wrinkle, but

Customers travelling to Brisbane can leverage on Malaysia Airlines’ codeshare and oneworld partner, Qantas and connect from Sydney and Melbourne to Brisbane (BNE) after the suspension of the KULBNE direct flight.
