Hi all,
I have been mapping my flights for a number of years using Flightdiary.net

I was wondering, for those of you who map your flights too, how do you account for codeshares? For example, next week I am flying on Qantas from Cairo to Dubai. Would you record it as QF8928 or EK928?

Grateful for your advice.
Cheers
Tim

Metal, you're getting EK service on an EK aircraft. Whom you paid for the service isn't really important.

Definitely operating carrier as others have already mentioned.

Your boarding passes and bag tags will always reflect the operating carrier flight number not the codeshare/marketed flight.

I always use operating carrier/metal when inputing flights into my Flight Tracker. Sometimes though if booked as a codeshare, I will add a note with the codeshare flight number.

I would only use the marketing airline over the operating airline (if there was a difference) when tracking point & status credit earn on my spreadsheet that deals specifically with that.

How about cases where the operating carrier is a contract carrier for the marketing carrier and the operating codes don't appear on boarding passes, etc? (eg, operated by Envoy Air, SkyWest, Eastern Australian, Sunstate, etc.)

In that case I would use the code of the "umbrella brand" that the subsidiary/franchise is operating on the behalf of. E.g. for Jetconnect or Eastern Australian I would just use QF. IMHO that's a different case to a codeshare flight.

When you use an annual (and very simple minded) spreadsheet to keep track of history (and planned) flights (how else could you minimally re-qualify?), you end up keeping both.

Happy wandering

Fred

I would go by the name of the side of the plane / main flight number.
So despite the fact that there are numerous companies which operate Qantas flights, at the end of the day you are getting onto a plane with the word Qantas on the side.

I capture the code number booked and the carrier flown. So, my records might show QF8928 and Emirates.
